For all you hopheads out there, this month's tasting at the Flying Saucer will feature a stunning lineup of IPAs in a battle to decide which style of American IPA reigns supreme. The classic west coast style which is typically heavy on the hops with lots of pine and citrus notes or the classic east coast style which tends to have a strong hop presence, but a maltier backbone. If you are working towards a saucer for the Beer Knurd program, all 9 of the beers we will be drinking will count towards your saucer. This is a great way to earn your place on the wall of fame! Don't know what I'm talking about? Click here.
We will be in the back room once again and platters of meats and cheeses will be provided for you to pair with your beers. You will also be able to order anything you like off of the menu. We will start with a reception beer at 6:30 to get things started and then on to the IPAs. Here's the beer lineup:
Reception Beer: Sunner Kolsch
Stone IPA (West) vs. Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA (East)
Avery Maharaja (West) vs. Weyerbacher Double Simcoe IPA (East)
Great Divide Hercules IPA (West) vs. Foothills Seeing Double IPA (Representing NC)
Moylan's Hopsickle (West) vs. Founder's Devil Dancer (East)
For those of you who notice such things, yes, Avery and Great Divide are in Colorado, but close enough. Yes, Founders is in Michigan, but close enough and I just wanted it in the tasting. It's the only IPA they have that I haven't had. This is a great deal, check the prices on some of these beers and you will realize what an incredible value this is!
There will be no maybe RSVPs for this event. It is very important we give the Saucer an accurate head count. If you RSVP yes and your plans change, please go back and change your RSVP. Thanks. See you there.
