James Joyce Monthly Beer Tasting: Stouts

Stouts, they're not just for breakfast anymore!  ;-)

People often think of stouts as winter beers, and, well, it just happens to be winter.  But, really, stouts are year-round beers; many devoted fans seek them out any time of year, day or night.  A stout is not necessarily a 'big' beer, many are easy-drinking session beers of low to medium alcohol content.  Modern stouts are dark with a roasty flavor, usually achieved by the addition of a small amount of darkly roasted malts in the brewing process.  Stouts can be dry or less so; are roasty and can taste of chocolate or coffee; can be low or high alcohol.  For our Februay 2013 James Joyce Beer Tasting, we plan to feature a tasty variety of stouts covering both domestic and imported, dry and 'double cream', oatmeal, coffee, and even an oyster stout.  (An alternate, if one is unavailable, would be a milk stout.)

So, do please come and join us - whether a devotee or just curious - the evening of  Wednesday, February 6th, for a generous sampling of roasty stouts.  Six pours of up to 6 oz. each (depending on the beer).  Your cost is $12 for the tasting, plus $3 for a J.J. tasting glass - if you don't already have one from a previous tasting.  Runs from 7pm to 10pm; show up any time inbetween and taste at your own pace, in whichever order you like.  Don't forget your glass!
