Second MEETUP OF 2013

Our  planned Meetups this year will be the first Thursday of the month except May--on the 16th, and July  --on the 11th to avoid meeting on the 4th and November-- on the 21st.  The change was necessitated by the class schedule for SAS's corporate clients.

Eric Majewicz will discuss his new app RGreenway. It is an app for navigating the Raleigh greenway system by displaying routes, trail descriptions, and other useful information. Eric will talk about the process his team went through for creating the app, including using the open data initiatives from the city of Raleigh, app development challenges, beta testing, release/user feedback, and the direction for future releases of the app.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.emajewicz.rgreenway&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5lbWFqZXdpY3oucmdyZWVud2F5Il0.

Michael Thomas will give a brief presentation on Android Native Development Kit (NDK).
BACKGROUND: What is the NDK? for Android Developers
https://developer.android.com/tools/sdk/ndk/overview.html
Mike will present short code demos (and answer questions) about using NDK native C/C++ code and tools, e.g. debugging, profiling, etc.

Non-SAS employees:Please RSVP on the Meetup site by 9am on the day of the Meetup. Guests are welcome. If you can't make it, un-RSVP so somebody else can use your slot. Check in at the front gate when you arrive and follow the map directions to building S.

SAS employees: You do not need to RSVP - just show up. Let Ross Hannah and I know if you can help with hosting or cleaning up.

Smoking is not allowed in the building, but we do have free WiFi available under the SSID "guest". Feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks or use the first floor break room (near the bathrooms on the left as you come in - meeting rooms are to the right).

Presenters and sponsors wanted! If you can present something during a future meetup please contact Bill Walser, Bill Lahti or Mike Thomas--and, of course Ed, Ross, and Luke.

Hey, is the slidestack available either here on on SlideShare?

There were some URLs and services mentioned I didn't get to write down and would love to revisit them.

Thanks guys, and thanks to everyone for attending. I appreciate the comments you guys had on potential ways for improving my app. I will post a slideshare URL so that you'll have access to the powerpoint slides.

Five stars for sure, as last night's meeting had something for everyone. I was especially impressed by Eric's presentation as it covered so much ground that one must cover when bootstrapping an App into the wild. The waving hand splash-page snippet was also useful. Thanks again for taking the time to organize & host such awesomeness.

Cary has their greenway data, and other data, available on their new open data portal at http://data.carync.gov/. Also all of this data is already hosted for REST access by Socrata at https://opendata.socrata.com/browse?q=cary%20nc&sortBy=relevance
