TriDroid West : Dive into the Bluetooth Low Energy API

Android 4.3 (API 18) introduced the Bluetooth Low Energy API. With an increasing number of BTLE devices hitting the market, let's dive in with a brief description of BTLE technology, an introduction to the necessary API calls, a demonstration with a real application and discussion of a few gotchas that you won't find in the documentation.

Marcelle Gibble

With more than fifteen years of experience, Marcelle combines a strong hardware background with proven software development skills. After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, she tackled automotive electronics, network security, and mobile applications. The constant thread for Marcelle has been her enjoyment of solving complex problems and discovering new technologies as evidenced by her continuing search for an algorithm to determine how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop.

Great presentation. I went to this Meetup being skeptical about BLE, but now I do feel like trying out this API. I was wondering if the links in the slides could be available to us.

Many thanks to Marcelle for a thoughtful and informative presentation on BLE. I learned a lot. Lots of opportunity for innovation combining Android, BLE, and wearable devices.

Parking Reminder - Just wanted to let everyone attending TriDroid West know that there is a Durham Bulls game tonight.

If you're driving, you can still park at the AU parking deck though. Ignore the $5 event parking signs and just let the attendant know that you're parking for an American Underground event. They'll wave you through and you can park in the upper levels without charge.

    See you tonight!
