What was missing for me was any redeeming quality to the so called love affairs. However the raw desperation in Kaufman's powerful performance blew me away. The musical contrasts between joyful pageantry and doom seemed to be emphasized. Overall it was surprising and interesting for such a familiar opera. I loved it! And it was great to see it with the group. I always learn from you.

The opera has beautiful music, and all roles were sung superbly. The production/direction bothered me a bit, but I much enjoyed hearing and seeing the opera.

With minor caveats, I enjoyed this production completely. Those interesting conversations about other voices in the roles and other productions are always a highlight of the meet -up. Thanks to Steve and the group.

I love this opera! I liked the recent met version better but still really enjoyed it! Amazing Jonas Kaufman sings Wagner as well.
