Now in its sixth year, Triangle Opera Appreciation is a small group of down-to-earth, gay-friendly opera lovers who enjoy experiencing opera. We warmly welcome newbies as well as long-time opera lovers.
We watch recorded performances in members' homes, live broadcasts in stadium movie theaters, and socialize over food and drink. We also schedule Meetups for on-stage performances when available.
Active participation is a requirement to retain membership: attend at least one event every other month or so and keep RSVPs up-to-date. Inactive individuals are encouraged to withdraw.
Our more established group focuses largely on a more traditional repertory of Italian opera as well as Central European, English, and French. A newer, subgroup offers dominantly Russian and German opera and lieder, although it may dip into the other repertories. Most events are held in private homes in North Raleigh, near Crabtree Valley Mall.
We depend on members' donations to meet expenses. The social periods are as important to this group as the operas we enjoy, and these include refreshments. We must also pay subscription costs to Meetup.com.
The mainstream opera events are held on Sunday afternoons in North Raleigh. The subgroup holds its events on Saturday afternoons or Friday evenings. In general we meet each every two or three weeks. DVD's are shown on large screen Blu-ray entertainment systems. Refreshments include soft drinks, wine, cheeses and fruit. Conversation at intermissions is lively! Join us!
