Gold Rush Stone Mountain - 5 to 7 miles +/- Strenuous.

We will hike to the Famous Gold Mine to explore the area and look for gold.

This is where Richard Sidden got his gold for his wife's wedding band.

Please do not expect to see much gold activity in this area. Over the years the shafts have caved in and all that remains is some shallow pits.

We also plan to see two other graveyards and some remains of some moonshine stills on the way.

WARNING! Gold fever has a very strange effect on people. Your best friend can turn on you in a second. Please do not bring knives on guns on this hike.

This is NOT your usual type of hike at all because some of this is OFF the beaten path.

If you enjoy nice marked trails please pick another hike.

Do not forget that I do not just lead hikes but true unforgettable adventures.

NOTE:

Please wear hiking boots/shoes or a good pair of sneakers.

I do highly recommend that you bring a walking stick or poles.

Bring your backpack or something to carry your food, snacks and water in. Make sure you have enough water or other drinks with you. Bring rain gear just in case of rain.

CARPOOL GREENSBORO: My Greenish Nissan Quest van will be near Dick's Sporting Goods and the Dress Barn at Wendover Plaza, 1208-A Bridford Parkway. Please meet there at 7:45AM. We will leave Greensboro 8:00AM SHARP!

CARPOOL WINSTON: We meet at Centre Stage Shopping Center's Parking Lot (305 Jonestown Road, Winston-Salem, NC). Here's a map to help you find the carpool location (map). My greenish Nissan Quest van will be north of Burger King facing Jonestown Rd. If I am not there yet, I will be coming. Get there by 8:20AM. We will leave from there at 8:35 SHARP.

Warning! Please be on time. If you come late we will be gone.

Please pay your share to help cover the high cost of gas to the driver if you are sharing the vehicle.

Remember that this a leisurely hike with no fast hiking. We will take time to enjoy nature and the beautiful surroundings.

One of the best hikes I have had in awhile. It was great meeting Curly, and talking to her. A great group to hike with. The grave sites were great. It was nice to meet you all, and hope to see you again

Best one yet! Where else can you hike, find gold, ghosts, and letterboxes, ski, race, get wet, and live to tell about it for only a dollar?!!

    January 4, 2013

This is a hard question to answer because it depends on the group and what happens. We should be back in Greensboro before 5:pm but I can not guarantee it.

I have great news! Curly Perzel is planning to come on this hike. She has hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, the AT and most of the Continental Divide.

This is your opportunity to meet her in person and hear some of her stores.

There is a small graveyard near the Gold Mine. Who knows - Gold Fever may have been involved. They could have died fighting over the gold. I bet Mike will show up - so be ready for anything.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
