***nutritarian: denfintion- one who seeks foods that are high in micronutrients such as antioxidents, phytochemicals, and many other micronutrients that are both known and yet undiscovered which are found primarily in vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts and seeds.***

I'm starting this group to have others to share this journey of taking responsibility for one's own health through the work of Dr. Joel Fuhrman. His basic formula is learning, through his books, and to practice preparing meals based on nutrient density that taste delicious. Nutrient density simply means foods that are nutrient rich, such as leafty greens and other vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts and seeds that are packed with antioxidents, phytochemicals and many other micronutrients while at the same time being low in calories. How radical is that? Its not about perfection. The way to tell that you're doing it right are 1, you're loving the food, 2, you're feeling great, and 3, you've greatly reduced or eliminated your need for medications for diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, autoimmune disorders, digestive disorders or migraines. To good to be true? The place to start is to go to drfuhrman.com and check out the 'success stories' and 'reverse disease' on top of the home page and the link also on the home page for the radio show Nutritional Wisdom. Next is to read either Eat for Health or Eat to Live. The latter is available at area bookstores. The member website, which has a fee, has an Ask the Dr. section where you can communicate directly with Dr. Fuhrman.

T. Colin Campbell, PhD, wrote The China Study which shows the scientific research of the relationship between nutrition and health. (Dr. Campbell is also featured in the documentary Planeat).

The primary purpose for this meetup is to form social and knowledge support for those seeking to take ownership and responsibility for their own health. I would like for us to meet often, or at least communicate often, to offer support and enthusiasm for each other, share awesome meals, and for some to prove to themselves that it is not a necessity to be a lifetime contributor to the pharmaceutical industry. For families, especially with young children or planning on having children, the book for you is Disease Proof Your Child. There you will learn that the decisions you make today have long term impact on your child's health. Also for athletes and those seeking peak performance in their life or just simply more energy to accomplish and achieve your dreams this meetup is for you. If I have not addressed your personal interest come to a potluck anyway and check it out.
