Learn about OpenShift

This month we're welcoming Andy Grimm, of Red Hat, who is going to talk to us about OpenShift, Red Hat's new platform as a service (PaaS) offering.

Andy will give an overview of OpenShift and the idea of a PaaS in general, then he'll dive into some of the features of OpenShift such as scaling web applications and custom cartridge development. Andy is also happy to discuss how OpenShift is managed.

About Andy:

Andy Grimm is a Support Engineer for OpenShift Online at Red Hat. In addition to supporting customers, he develops OpenShift cartridges and does performance analysis for the OpenShift Online platform. Prior to joining Red Hat, Andy most recently worked at start-ups Eucalyptus and rPath, where his roles ranged from customer support and community development to writing software installers and maintaining an entire Linux distribution.

We're at our good friends WebAssign again this month. Doors open at 6:45. Pizza is being provided by The Select Group.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. Let me or any of the organizers know if you need anything.

Talk was good, I struggled a bit to understand the Openshift concepts.

I had a great time, learned I could get 3 free shell accounts and host a minimal website for free. seemed like a really cool meeting space so I want to learn more about the company hosting the meeting now.

Hi! WebAssign builds online homework and grading for college (and some high school) STEM courses, primarily, math, physics and chemistry.

Is there a webex for this session? I won't be able to make it in person, but would love to watch.

There aren't currently plans to record or stream it. This is certainly one area where we need to improve the meetup.

I won't be present tonight so I can spend time with my son on his birthday, but Nathan Walls will be running the meetup in my stead, so you're in good hands.

Want to know more about Devops

We can make that happen Brian. While not every meeting we hold focuses directly on the culture and processes of DevOps, I'm sure anyone at the meetup would be happy to answer any questions you have before or after the main presentation. Certainly myself and the organizers would be happy to. The December meetup will also likely be a good venue to come and ask questions at, as it's going to be a more open format. In short, come out, meet people, and ask questions.

Brian, I won't be at the November meetup, but find me at any of the other meetups and I'm happy to talk some more. Also you can join us in #triangledevops on Freenode IRC. Thanks for joining!
