I think of DevOps as describing development efforts which are chiefly concerned with infrastructure and/or operations tools.
Conversely, most of the DevOps job reqs I've happened across seem to view DevOps as "sysadmin with strong scripting skills", which feels to me like the opposite end of that spectrum.

The subject of this email is a topic for discussion I'd like to throw out to the group. Since I've taken over the group, we've had a series of technical and operations focused talks, but the question of what is devops has been left vague. I don't have any talks currently scheduled to address the question of what is devops, but it seems like a fitting question to ask the group. We might or might not come to a consensus on what it means, but at the very least it will let us all know what everyone is thinking and see if we're on common ground or not.
With that, I ask you: what is DevOps?
