Should have posted this earlier - the Washington Area Roadskaters also have this posted as a meetup event and there's more info there: http://www.meetup.com/Washingto...

Oh yeah - I bought my Amtrak tickets for me and my GF. They were $102 / person for round trip. I'm leaving on the 10:30 train from Cary. There is only 1 return option, 3pm on Sunday.

Just to let everyone know about how Amtrak worked out, at least on the train up to DC. In general, I liked the train ride. However, the train was over 2 hours late getting into DC (originally scheduled to arrive at 4:30pm, did not arrive until after 6:30pm). The reason for this was a disabled train ahead of us which caused us to stop, then eventually back up to Richmond where we could get onto another track. We did make the 7pm skate but just barely. Here's hoping the trip back won't be as delayed since we're scheduled to arrive at 9:30pm back into Raleigh.

Also the cab ride from Union Station was $20 (with small tip). This seemed the best option for 4 people with a lot of luggage. Trip took 20 minutes to go 3.5 miles!

Or taking the Metro gets us pretty close to the hotel - could walk from there... https://maps.google.com/maps?sad...

According to Google, Amtrak (Union Station) is about 3 miles from the hotel (cycling directions). https://maps.google.com/maps?sad...

Amtrak may also be a possibility. Raleigh to Washington was $67 so round trip is probably $120. I have not looked to check how close host hotel is to station.

      Have you figured out hotel?

The other issue is hotel. The prices seemed very expensive. I'd love to share a hotel with other skaters. I can even bring a thermarest to sleep on. Looking forward to this event!

Great! Should I post on those?

Sure - in the past it's been somewhat informal who drives with who, sharing rooms, etc. There also is a google group for the skateDC weekend (see bottom of www.skatedc.org). I joined and posted a question about room sharing and such - maybe they have a method for handling the room sharing. Also you may try one of the upcoming skates here - we may get more interest as the event gets closer and we get skating going in the next month or so. It looks like they are on facebook too so as we see there's multiple ways to link up with people interested in sharing a room. I do know one other person that will probably be driving from the Triangle but plans are somewhat preliminary at this point.

I want to do this!!! Are you driving from Raleigh? I would be leaving after work on Friday and would be interested in carpooling. I don't think I'd be there by 7 PM. Is that a problem? Thanks!

I'm not sure how I'm getting there but leaning towards flying right now - depends on cost though.

I don't think it's a problem if you can't make Friday 7pm. There are many other skates on Sat and one final one Sun.
