Coffee and Creole

  • Aug 5, 2013 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Did you know that Haiti has another official language in addition to French? Do you know  what a Creole language is? Find the answers to these questions and more at our upcoming meetup! This time around, I am excited to announce a guest speaker, Carlo Diy, Creator of HaitiHub and Organizer of The HaitiHub Creole Conversation Group of Durham. He'll be talking to us about Haitian Creole, a language he is fluent in!

You won't want to miss this great opportunity, so RSVP now!

Logistics:
We'll be in the upstairs area at The Morning Times, a café in downtown Raleigh. They serve food until 7 p.m., so if you plan on eating, make sure to arrive on time!

IMPORTANT: Since The Morning Times has been nice enough to reserve a choice location for us at their establishment, I ask all those who RSVP to commit to ordering a drink and/or food. After all, this is for paying customers only!

I look forward to seeing you there!

This time around was very informative and entertaining. We learned about the people of Haiti and their language, proverbs and even gestures! My thanks again to Carlo Diy who made the long drive to share with us and to all who were able to attend—it was totally worth it! Hope to see you all at our next meetup, when we'll be knocking down some pins...and language myths!

I had many Haitian neighbors when I lived in Miami. But my son has soccer practice, so I will miss this one. :-(

Peter - I hope that Morning Times works out for you all. Sorry for not being able to get in contact with you earlier. Cheers,
    Harriet
