Let's go see Jonathan Haidt speak at Duke

Let's go see Jonathan Haidt speak at Duke.  He will be speaking about Why So Many Americans Don’t Want Social Justice and Don’t Trust Scientists. This event is free and open to the public.  Some of us are working on carpooling: please see below.

Dr. Haidt had lots of interesting things to say and presented them in a clear fashion . Although I'm subject to confirmation bias, I felt he put some real support behind a cautious approach to evaluating political statements and being open to different moral points of view.

Due to a change in my wife's plans I will have the minivan tonight so if anyone else wants to carpool from the Unitarian Universalists Fellowship on Wade avenue, come at 4:15

I saw a book last night that I can buy for less than the cost of getting to Duke--Who Stole the American Dream? by Hedrick
Smith. So I'm bailing out. Besides, I'm still absorbing Haidt's
book. So much to read, so little time....

The Trent Center lectures are always good. I attend most of them however I am out of town and will miss this one. Enjoy all....

Lee, is it normally difficult to find parking and get a seat for these events?
      Thanks, Todd

I will be at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship parking lot by 4:15 and take off from there by 4:30 at the latest. Feel free to call me with any questions.

Something came up. Sorry I can't make it.

Yes, David, I would like to ride with you. I will meet you preferably at 4:15, but I'll meet you at whatever time you can get there.

    March 18, 2013

  • Todd

Thank you for offering to drive David. I would be glad to ride with you, and I believe Pat and Mac also would like to ride, but would prefer to leave at 4:15. Is that too early for you David?

Does anyone else want to carpool?

    March 18, 2013

  • Todd

4:15 sounds good, but I spoke too soon about about our minivan...my wife will be using it.

    March 17, 2013

  • Mac

I agree with Pat that we ought to leave earlier, say 4:15. This allows for freeway traffic and a crowded venue.

    March 17, 2013

  • Pat

Yes, I saw that after I asked my question, and I do know where it is. I would feel better leaving at 4:15. It may be a popular lecture and hopefully we'll be ahead of RTP rush hour traffic.

Here is a link to a map
    http://maps.duke.edu/map/?id=21&mrkId=4738
There is a parking deck, and some on-ground parking. Both usually require payment. This is also the parking to visit Duke Chapel. When you are there, ask for directions to Bryan Center, it is well known as it is the student center.

How do you work this website? I have tried twice to reply to Todd's remarks, so here it goes again. If you receive this message three times, it's because it keeps disappearing when I try to post it. I am familiar with the Duke campus(es). By UUFR I take you to mean the Unitarian Universal Fellowship R____. I can be there by 4:30 and take three others and, if necessary, lead the way for another car.

  • Todd

I'm not familiar with the campus. The event website says:

"Parking in Bryan Center Parking Deck on Science Drive"

  • Pat

    Do you know about parking?

    March 16, 2013

  • Todd

UUFR works for me. What do you think for a time? 4:30?

    March 16, 2013

  • Pat

We could meet a the UUFR parking lot on Wade Ave. It's safe to leave cars there and easily accessible to I-40.

I would like to go IF I can carpool. Where and what time is departure?

    March 16, 2013

  • DavidS

    I've been wondering about that.

    March 15, 2013

  • Todd

I'm open to suggestions on where to meet whoever would like to carpool. I am coming from East Raleigh so I can stop anywhere around Central or NorthWest Raleigh

    March 15, 2013

  • Mac

I'd like to carpool from Raleigh. Just tell me where and when to meet you.
