Is it the state of our souls we should concern ourselves with, or the state of our flesh? We live in a culture of ambivalence when it comes to these issues; is it possible to approach them from a philosophical perspective and arrive at anything other than pop psychology? How do those on each side of the issue describe themselves philosophically? Though this issue has overlaps with religious belief, I think there is plenty to be said without venturing too far into that territory--I'd hate to reduce a conflict I think so essential to human existence to a theistic argument. After all, there is still indulgence in the withholding!
