Newbie Nirvana- Learning the Ropes

Ready to learn how to belay and climb with a top rope? TRC has agreed to run a beginner's class for us. They will teach newbies how to safely belay a climbing partner. You will be able to pass the belay certification test afterwards, and then you're free to climb to your heart's content. TRC will charge $10 for this training - and you can pay at the door.

Note - As always, if this is your first time at the Triangle Rock Club with the TRC Meetup, you get in for free and will just need to pay for the training. If you've been to TRC before, you'll pay the normal TRC Meetup admission rate ($13), plus the $10 for the class. Note - TRC offers a full range of climbing instruction, so check out their other offerings too.

This meetup conflicts with another obligation and I just realized it today... I'm still a little injured (shoulder) as well so I should probably just wait til next time. Rats. Have fun!

We will still be having meetup tonight, but if the conditions are bad where you are don't worry, there will be more Newbie classes in the future!

I have never climbed before but really looking foward to giving it a shot. What should I bring and what kind of clothes should I wear?
    Thanks!

Loose, comfy clothes work best - yoga pants and a tshirt or tank top work great. You want to be able to move, so jeans are probably out. You can rent climbing shoes and a climbing harness at the desk :)

I took climbing in college, but that has been 2 years. Looking to brush up on my belay skills and get certified again.

Hey all, you don't have to be a newbie to come! You're welcome to come and just climb! The newbies will meet back up with us after the class.
