Medieval Dagger / Grappling

This class is open to everyone, even brand new students. We'll be working our way through some of the basic medieval self-defense techniques used to defend oneself against a dagger attack. We will be taking techniques from a variety of different sources from the 13th through the 17th centuries. We will cover

• Techniques for defending the dagger attack and the follow-up wrestling techniques (throws, locks, disarms, etc.)

• Fundamentals of breaking your fall when thrown

• The use of dagger techniques in chaotic circumstances (as most dagger attacks are)

• Defense against dagger in certain tactical scenarios

• Using the wrestling techniques we learn from the dagger with other medieval weapons (longsword in particular).

Everyone should have their own practice dagger, but these can be made cheap. We will have extras for loan and eventually for sale for new people.

Near the end of the class, we will possibly transition over from dagger to unarmed grappling, depending on demand. Grappling will focus on techniques from either Codex Wallerstein or Fabian von Auersbauld (TBD).
