Introduction to Buddhism and meditation: What is meditation?

Meditation is not the only form of Buddhist practice through which we can develop awareness and positive states of mind but it is probably the most immediate and accessible.
Meditation puts us in touch with ourselves, reveals the experience underneath our distractions, giving way to a more truly satisfying experience. We become clearer, more authentic individuals, able to relate more fully to ourselves and to others.
This alone would be sufficient reason to meditate. But when we realise that sustained and consistent practice can lead to transcendental insight, a profound change in our being that enables us to see through the causes of suffering, it becomes clear that meditation is a practice of inestimable value.

Led by Alobhin, a member of the Triratna Buddhist Order, the meetings will be aimed at newcomers to Buddhism and anyone who would like to refresh their knowledge and practice. We'll meet at 7.30pm and finish around 9.30 - 9.45pm.

At future meetings we'll be looking at the following topics:

Week 5: The development of wisdom
Week 5: The poetic dimension

Triratna Buddhist Community Leicester is an established group and we anticipate more people will attend than are registered on this site (so please don't be put off by apparent small numbers!).
