Hello,
My name is Mike Bozeman and this is my first experience on meet up, so I hope this comes across right.
I am starting this group called Truth seekers of Hudson NH because I want to find others in our community who like me would like to study the Bible.
To say we would be "Truth-seekers" perhaps needs a bit of explanation. I believe our society has largely chosen the idea that truth is relative. That is, there is no absolute truth, that everyone can make his own truth. It may be one reason that there are so many kinds of churches. The Bible is a book that makes a claim that it is THE Truth, and that Jesus is the ONLY Way (John 14:6). I believe that there are people other than just myself who believe that there is absolute truth and who would like to discover for themselves what God has to say.
I envision that those who meet in this group would be honest people. That is, people who honestly want to know what the Bible says. While I might help facilitate or guide this study, I am also a student of this Book. In this group we would accept that the Bible will not always agree with our society thinks or even what we think. We would try our best to be objective in our study. We would read the text, use our minds to understand it, then our hearts to apply it to the practical issues of daily living.
In this group we would not be recruiting or promoting a particular church, rather we would be encouraging an honest read of the Bible. The Bible isn't coercive and therefore this group would not be coercive. The Bible is quite challenging itself and it would be up to individuals to make changes in their lives if they discovered places they needed to change.
As a format, we would choose a book in the Bible to study. Then, we would meet for an hour perhaps each week or perhaps every other week, take turns reading, and then discuss the text and see how it applies to our lives.
Who is invited? Anyone who sincerely wants to read the Bible and discover what God says on the issues of life.
If you could RSVP, it would help me and my wife to know how many to expect.
Thanks for your interest. Let's make this a great group.
