Note: If there are less than 5 RSVPs on the evening before the Meetup then the Meetup will be cancelled. In that case you will be notified by email. Please check the Meetup page and your email for any updates. Please RSVP if you plan to attend. Please change your RSVP if you can't make it.

**********************************************

We're starting the Sunday training back up. Since it is still a bit chilly outside though the first training sessions will be just bike & run. We'll review in a few weeks if we should add the swim back in.

The park opens at 8:00 AM and there is often a long line of cars. Please be in line at 8 AM so you're in the parking lot and ready to go at 8:15. Park entrance fee is $4 for a single occupant vehicle. It's $2 for extra passengers, pedestrians, bicyclists. They accept only cash. Annual passes are available for $65.

We'll bike 9 miles through the park, then run 1.7 to 4.5 miles (more details below).

Everyone goes at their own pace and can tailor the course according to their abilities. After the we gather in the parking lot again and wait for everyone to finish before we go on to the run.

If you have questions on clothing or equipment please check this post on the message board: http://www.meetup.com...

Directions:
If you don't know where John U Lloyd Park is please have a look at the map. You can click on the location above to get to one.

After you enter John U Lloyd park drive all the way to the end until you get to the last parking lot (about 2.5 miles). We'll meet at the last pavilion (called Jetty Pavilion). Park entrance fee is $4. They accept only cash.

Bike:
The bike ride is 2 loops of 4.5 miles each on the road that runs through the park (normal pavement). Do just one loop if you want to.

Run:
For the run we have 4 alternative routes: a beach run of 1.7 miles (on the sand), a street run of 3 miles, a street run of 4.5 miles, or a trail run of 4.4 miles. We'll discuss who wants to do which run and then split up into groups if needed.

Sorry we could not make it this morning! Definitely will be there next Sunday,

    January 26, 2014

  • Manuel A. R.

Ok here is a Sat night update. Today the water temp according to ft laud ocean rescue was 73 degrees with calm seas. That is great swimming temperature. Also green flags with no jellies. John Loyd always has a purple flag even when their are no sea pests in the water so don't be discouraged if you see that tomorrow. So far looks like it will be good for swimming tomorrow.

    2 · January 21, 2014

    • Manuel A. R.

That is great to hear. Triathlons are so much fun. This group is definitely a good place to make good training friends and friends in general. I have been with the group for about 5 years now and consider them all friends for life.

      January 22, 2014

    • Manuel A. R.

David and Patti welcome to the group. This is a very inviting group due to the fact that all abilities are welcome. Everyone goes at their own pace. Its a closed park so we never lose each other. Also don't worry about holding anyone up. That never happens as we all go at our own pace. We look forward to seeing you both there.

I'm good to host this Sunday. I'll call ahead of time to check for water temp and jellies. Just bring all your gear in the event we can do all three. If the water is freezing maybe some of you may want to try out your wetsuits.

      Sounds great!

      January 22, 2014

  • Phyllis J.

Hi, I would love to attend, but have not ran in a while. Have a new bike for a year now, and have not venture out with it. I really do not want to be left behind or hold anyone up. Sounds like fun.

    2 · January 22, 2014

    • David

Not to worry, Phyllis! The beauty of our Sunday trainings at John U Lloyd is that the loops are done within the park and at your own pace. And after each portion (swim, bike, run) everyone waits for the others to finish. Lastly, it is fun!

      3 · January 22, 2014

    • Manuel A. R.

Absolutely agree with David. The bike and run are done in loops. Everyone goes at their own pace and it is safe inside the park.

      January 22, 2014

  • Rochelle

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
