It was wonderful, lots of great people and wonderful food. Just felt so good to be around people who think and not run by myths.

We had a lot of good interactions with intelligent and thinking people. Music by Paul was great. Idea for another party could be talent night. This was a well organized party by Lisa and the Lacey's, and I am sure others, and everyone seemed to enjoy the food and conversations. Sorry to have to leave too early.

Thanks to EVERYONE for such a great evening and for making my first hosting experience with the atheist group so comfortable! Special thanks to Don for setting up and running the karaoke, Nancy for cooking the pasta and running the kitchen while I...*ehem*....played in the pool. Thanks to Paul for bringing me out of my musical shell, putting me back behind the keyboard after four long years and some fun entertainment. An extra special thanks to America for being the absolute life of the party and then staying until 2am to help me clean my house. (Which is why *she* had pie for breakfast!) Love my secular family!

Our first annual Summer Solstice Party was a unqualified success. Everyone had a great time. The pasta and sauce was excellent, Paul did an excellent job with his live performance with Lisa playing keyboard backup. We had three rotations of Karaoke singing. All in all a very good time!

I know it says to bring sauce, salad, or desert . . . but there has been no mention of garlic bread. If it's cool with the host, I would like to bring stuff and make garlic bread. My preferred method involves melting butter (in either the microwave or a pan on the stove), adding fresh garlic, brushing it onto baguette slices, and then toasting it on a cookie sheet under the broiler. So, if I bring the supplies, will the oven be free to make toasted garlic bread? I could bring a toaster oven, but the batches would be smaller. Lisa, this is your party, so I'll go with whatever you say. What do you think?

    • Lisa D.

Great idea!! Thanks for the suggestion.

Just FYI (for food/people count) I may be coming with another person who has attended some of the skeptic/atheist meetings. I won't know for certain if he's coming until Saturday. In any event, I will be there.

Each solstice is a celestial event -- as is each equinox. Because they are"easy markers" all sorts of religions have tried to preempt them and add their own meaning to the scientific fact they happen. Confabulating a solstice or equinox into spiritual event or ascribing it to a religion or pagan right is just backward in reasoning. They are, however, good calendar markings for another reason to celebrate joy and life as a human who has the brains to observe and mark them without ascribing them to some higher power.

    1 · May 28, 2013

  • Carey F.

So we're doing science, not paganism.

    1 · May 28, 2013

  • Carey F.

Solstice party sounds a bit pagan. Thought that was religion. This from someone who always celebrates the winter solstice

    May 22, 2013

    • Don L.

The solstice is a solar event, not pagan. It has to do with the longest day of the year or the time when the Earth's tilt reverses with respect to the Sun.

      May 27, 2013

  • marilyn b.

Sounds like FUN! Don't know about a guest right now, will let you know. I will probably bring salad, or you can let me know if you would prefer I bring something else!
