New Year's Eve Party

  • Dec 31, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is no longer available

Come ring in the new year at my house! Since i know most people only read the first couple sentences, PLEASE see the notes below on directions and parking.

For anyone who doesn't know, i moved up to the foothills earlier this year. As soon as i moved in, i knew i had to have a new years eve party there. We'll have great views of pretty much all of the fireworks in town.

I'll provide plenty of booze, water, and soda. I will also get some pizzas (im pretty sure, i need to check that somewhere will be open! I'll update as we get closer). Feel free to bring a small something to share - chips, snacks, desert, whatever you like.

Weather permitting, we'll have a fire outside.

Warning! We have pet snakes and bugs at our house, but we'll get things all into one room. Anyone who is interested can get a tour of the critters, and anyone who doesn't like them can stay clear of that room.

*DIRECTIONS* Google maps does find my house correctly, but it does not always give correct directions. There is a gate that it ignores. You CANNOT get to my house from Summit Ridge Rd. The only way to get to my house is from the intersection of Kolb Rd and Gate Ridge Rd. Head west on Gate Ridge. This will soon bend to the left and you follow this road south/uphill for a block. You will come to a point where the paved road curves right, and a dirt road continues south. My house is down the dirt road. PLEASE look at google maps or some other map service to get an idea before you come out.

*PARKING* if you look on google maps, there are two driveways that go up to my house. I strongly recommend you use the driveway further south (the second dirt driveway you get to) to get up. The other driveway is only useable if you have a high-clearance vehicle. Most other cars will have trouble. If you are arriving later, you will need to park down lower and walk up the driveway. Please bring a flashlight! It is not paved, so it's not a smooth surface. Any of the dirt road is available for parking, but do not block the road for others. You can also park on the paved section of Gate Ridge Rd or Rock Canyon Road.

Thank you so much Philip for being such a good host and allowing the rest of us to "ring in the New Year" with such an awesome group of people. You, Don and Nancy are all very special. It was really fun!

Great friendly party. We loved it. Thanks everybody.

Thanks to Don and Nancy for the use of the chairs, the hot buttered rum, helping with cohosting when i was too busy or too *ahem*, festive to do it. Thanks also for running the group and making this possible for all of us. None of us would be here without you two!

    4 · January 1, 2014

    • Andrew O.

Yeah, for sure. I meant to thank you at the party but I was so busy and, also going to go with festive, that I totally forgot. Thank you so much!

Last minute note: The geiger counter is real and works as far as we know. It is delicate so please be careful with it.

    December 30, 2013

    • Andrew O.

No we just have the geiger. It is fun to run it over 99c store purchases, heh.

      January 1, 2014

    • Greg C.

Is it a real geiger-muller tube? (or just a low sensitivity Civil Defense survey meter?) I've got a small sample of genuine Trinitite that is no doubt still spitting out a few CS137 gammas. That, and some sand samples from Snow Canyon State Park, just downwind from the Nevada Test Site.

Thanks to everyone who came out. It was a great night, made better by everyone's company. The house is all cleaned up (only took about two hours). We somehow have more food than we did at the start, and lots of great memories. Happy new year to all of us!

Thank's for coming everyone, I had a great time. Thanks to Oliver Spires and Kenneth C MacNeil for helping me to put together the Fire Tornado Machine and Donald Lacey for the design advice and you and Nancy Fine Lacey (Nancy Jean Fine) for all the other stuff! Thanks to everyone who brought stuff, it was amazing!

Kevin and i had a lovely evening! OK, really, we never knew what the hell was going to happen next, which made it a pretty fun party. The constant mini-explosions and fires, at least, kept me constantly worried about the proper use of fire by drunk people inside the house. So glad we went! Thanks, Phillip, for a memorable ushering in of 2014!

And thanks to Andrew for all the great entertainment too! We can always count on you to "cook up" something fun!

I live outside city limits on the complete opposite side of town. Not sure I want to drive or take a cab that far on a night like tonight. You guys have fun. Happy New Year!

I'll be there for a couple hours, but probably not until midnight. Thanks for having this Phil!

    December 31, 2013

  • Philip M.

I want to make a quick announcement about driving on new years eve. My house is outside of city limits, and i don't know of any of the "tipsy tow" services that will service my house. Everything i have seen so far requires you to be coming from a bar or restaurant, so do not count on any sort of free service from my house! Taxis do come here, but you will be paying for them if you cannot drive. I am not above taking keys, knocking someone out, etc. If you cannot drive, i won't let you. I've got rope and structural pillars in my house, if you catch my drift. Be smart with your celebrating, and we won't have any issues. Be safe, everyone!

    1 · December 29, 2013

    • Greg C.

Roaring bonfires, dangerous fireworks, plentiful booze, endless nosh, killer view, exotic poisonous snakes and bugs, even recreational bondage?! Never let it be said that Heathens don't know how to throw a proper party! :) Call 1-800-AAA-HELP [masked]) between between 6 p.m. Dec. 31 and 6 a.m. Jan. 1. State that they need a “Tipsy Tow.” Provide the driver’s name, home address, phone number and vehicle/driver location. 10 mile limit. ("Services will not be provided to motorists requesting a tow to another drinking establishment." LOL!)

      December 30, 2013

    • America Darling C.

Can we use the rope and structural pillars for something else?

      1 · December 31, 2013

  • Ruby K.

I'll get pecan pie and avocado salad if I can find them in store

    December 30, 2013

    • ellie h.

      I'm bringing apple pie

      December 31, 2013

  • Paul M.

I'd love to come, but not having a car makes it pretty near impossible. Will come to the Red Garter meet, since it's only two miles from my apartment.

    December 31, 2013

  • pam

Are we supposed to bring anything?

    December 30, 2013

    • Andrew O.

You can bring something to snack on or any special alcohol you would be sad to not see. But we have a shit ton of beer and like 13-14 bottles of wine and champagne and a bunch of chips and stuff so you don't need to bring anything

I missed Don's party, and I'm not for sure I'm coming to this one, but I wanted to put my name in for a possible 'count'.

    December 30, 2013

  • Philip M.

We currently don't have much in the way of dessert foods - just some snack stuff. If some people can bring a small dessert item, that would be great! Thanks! This is your last chance before new years resolutions start :)

    What kind of "bugs"?

    1 · December 8, 2013

    • Andrew O.

Well, we have some tiny millipedes and... um, some other things. But yes, that is pretty much it.

      1 · December 24, 2013

    • Greg C.

And even the millipedes will probably poop on you. :)

      1 · December 28, 2013

  • marilyn b.

Well now (don't tell) if not at Phillip's it might just be found at my son's place!! (Name withheld)

    December 24, 2013

  • Greg C.

On the theory that "If the police aren't looking for you, you're not really having fun!", I'll offer to bring a big box of fireworks. Probably too much? How about a few strings of firecrackers? (Those shouldn't burn down the mountain or trigger a visit by the black helicopters.)

    2 · December 23, 2013

    • Philip M.

Thanks, Greg! We'll have some of our own homemade firecrackers and fire tricks as well.

      December 23, 2013

  • marilyn b.

    Certainly looking forward!!!

    December 23, 2013

  • marilyn b.

What's with the eye thing Andrew?? Did you get a "bug" in your eye?? Ha!

    December 8, 2013

    • Andrew O.

You can move your eyeballs around in your sockets. I like how it makes my face look even less symmetrical than normal.

      December 12, 2013

Oh, my cell is[masked], just in case anyone is test running or gets lost on the way. I can at least find a responsible adult to help.

    December 22, 2013

  • Andrew O.

I work from home right now, so if anyone wants to do a dry run I can give them my phone number or whatever. That way if they get lost I can help figure out how to get here on my computer.

    December 12, 2013

    • Philip M.

Our house is the second one. The first driveway near the mailboxes is paved and belongs to our neighbor. The third driveway is ours and is much easier to get up then the second.

      December 12, 2013

    • Andrew O.

Ah dang, totally missed this. I must not have my alerts set up correctly.

      December 22, 2013

  • Jerry K.

Thank you Phillip. I plan on coming with some goodies.

    December 19, 2013

  • Patrick S.

Is it OK if I bring God along? He's interested in your arthropods, although personally I like snakes!

    December 10, 2013

    • Andrew O.

I imagine God is still a bit cross with the snakes.

Phillip: How gracious of you to have the NY's Eve celebration at your home. Are you on Kolb Rd. closer to the fire station or closer to the Kolb Territory intersection. I am hoping to make a dry run and find your house in the daylight. Again thanks, Ellie Hopkins

    December 8, 2013

    • Philip M.

I'm closer to the Kolb Territory intersection. Kolb territory is just a little north of the intersection of Kolb and Gate Ridge, the road that leads to my house.

      December 8, 2013

    • marilyn b.

Good idea Ellie - I plan to do the same!!

Hi, I'm Phil's brother. We just wanted to add a little note about kids.
*KIDS* Kids are more than welcome until 9pm. We will try to keep things less hectic until then. After 9p, you don't have to take your kids and leave, but the party will go into unfettered mode so it us up to the parents and guardians to keep their kids out of trouble.

    December 7, 2013

    • Andrew O.

Np. We like all our friends kids, so it is really no problem.

      December 7, 2013

    • Andrew O.

Also, if you do bring kids Phil or I would be more than happy to show them all our animals. Just let us know! We can play with some of the nice ones, too.
