Tucson Atheists Monthly Movie Night

This is the generic description for Tucson Atheists Monthly Movie Night. On the fourth Monday of each month (one week after the group's monthly meeting), the Sahara Apartments host the Tucson Atheists in their small movie theater. I (Patrick) will update this event with the movie title a week or so before the movie night.

Bottled water is ok but please don't bring any other food or drinks into the theater. This is one of the conditions of our use of the facility. There's a lounge next door where food and drink are allowed.

After the movie, we usually have a discussion in the theater and maybe head over to the Epic Cafe (745 N 4th St, at University) to talk about the movie and anything else we feel like.

The Sahara Apartments are on Stone a block and a half south of Speedway, on the west side. There is plenty of parking right there (ignore the warning signs). Note that the theater is through a locked security gate. Someone from our group will be waiting inside the gate to buzz everyone in, but you must be there by 6:30 as that's when the movie will start. I recommend that you arrive a few minutes early!

    Hi all,

Patrick can't make it on the 25th, so I'll be your host for this month's movie. We'll be watching "Red State", a 2011 action-horror film, written and directed by Kevin Smith, who also wrote and directed "Dogma" (1999). See http://www.IMDb.com/title/tt0873886/ and http://En.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_State_%282011_film%29

The cast includes Michael Parks, Melissa Leo, John Goodman, and Stephen Root. Parks' character is loosely based on Fred Phelps, the founder of the Westboro Baptist Church.

The film premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. You can see a synopsis at http://History.Sundance.org/films/6769/red_state

Patrick - another comment/question. Have you shown 'The Unbelievers'. It follows renowned scientists Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss across the globe as they speak publicly about the importance of science and reason in the modern world - encouraging others to cast off antiquated religious and politically motivated approaches toward important current issues. The film includes interviews with celebrities and other influential people who support the work of these controversial speakers. Just Curious ..........

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
