Sex and the God Virus: Why is Religion so Interested in Sex? With Dr. Darrel Ray

Darrel's presentation style is fast paced, humorous and engaging. He is not afraid to explore even the most sensitive areas of religious infection from sexual guilt to abstinence only, from the hypnotic techniques of ministers to music's role in infection and how it all fits together.

This event is held in the Duval Auditorium and sponsored by FreeThought Arizona.

Informative and also very entertaining talk. I expected a little bit more in regard as to "WHY" religion is interested in sex. Dr. Ray's talk mainly talked about how oppressive and insensible the religions' dealings with sexuality are, but not which purpose the creation of taboos serves and why there is a benefit for implementing them. Anyhow, an excellent talk, and great jokes, too....

Great talk. Main new idea for me... "Christian Atheists". Do I still carry some of the religion distorted attitudes and opinions I thought I shook off decades ago?

Does the group intend to meetup outside the auditorium first and enter as a group? (An unsavory gang of heathen thugs looking for trouble, but mostly just sitting together.) Or is this just “Everybody show up and check it out?”

I'm somewhat new to the group and don't recognize many faces yet...

(I can wear my leather jacket if it's the "Gang of Heathen Thugs" option.)

This lecture is suspiciously scheduled during normal church hours. No real danger of rumbles.

Is not another gang just another religion? i.e. the Protestants, Catholics, Heathen Thugs, Jews, Muslims, Mormons, etc, etc ? ;)

I have looked at the online map information, and there is no DuVal Auditorium listed anywhere. Can someone fill me in about where this is located? I know I have a week, but I'm throwing this out there early so I can stop worrying about getting lost.

The DuVal auditorium is in the University Medical Center (Hospital) it's at 1501 N. Campbell Ave. It's a big building, can't miss it. The parking is in front of the building and free on Sunday. West of Campbell.

OK. Thanks so much. I recognize you now. I came to one of your Skeptics meetings at Denny's. I will try the out-and-out atheists.

I read the book, "The God Virus" it was excellent! With many years experience as a "believer", believe me, I know it's a very accurate description about how religion works. I am so glad to be free of it. Unfortunately, so many others seem doomed to go to the grave laboring under the delusion. I'm so glad this event will be held in Tucson and I hope it saves the minds of many from ignorance and confusion.
