Please be careful about a knee jerk reaction to the news of using RoundUp on test plots in the Tucson Mountains to eradicate bufflegrass. Bufflegrass invasion is itself an environmental disaster. If there is a fire in the Tucson Mountains (or for that matter anywhere where the bufflegrass is thick) we will lose all the native flora forever. Native cacti have a cuticle that is not affected by the spray and the reason these test plots are being sprayed is to determine exactly how all the different plant species react. The people doing this are the good guys they are not purveyors of any "evil corporation" trying to destroy the desert. Please learn the facts before simply hearing "Monsanto' and "RoundUp" and assuming the worst. The manual removal of bufflegrass is not working and we need to find new ways to rid the landscape of this serious threat. I know people who have been dedicating their work lives to the this problem for years now and they say that the methodology of these test areas is safe and necessary. Please do some research before inciting a reaction based solely on emotion and not education. Elissa Fazio
