Welcome! We are a group of friendly, fun men and women who Contra Dance to live music on most Saturday nights near the University of Arizona. These are open, community dances that begin with an introductory lesson at 6:30. You can come by yourself or with a group of friends, so please join us! No experience required. Contra dance has existed since the pilgrims brought over their English country dances, and it acquired a more American flavor until it has become a distinct dance form unto itself. The dances have distinct moves, such as the partner swing as in square dancing, but they are danced in lines or circles and you change partners every dance. The dances are challenging, but get easier the more you dance: instructions are given before each dance. We have free snacks at the break and often go out to eat after the dance. Dances are sponsored by Tucson Friends of Traditional music, www.tftm.org. Come Join Us!
