Working With Models: Real Portfolio Building Shoot For Monika Christine

** NOT a rehearsed workshop, it's the real deal.

Monika is being extremely gracious to let you observe.

I've never met or seen Monika in person.  She is applying to modeling agencies and this session is for her port. She's only worked with one other photographer and that wasn't for agency use.  This is her, beautiful young lady.

The best lighting, make up, clothing, etc. do no good if your model isn't showing personality, pleasing lines and expression right down to the finger placement.  Those eyes and lips have to say something!

She will arrive at 11am, you'll see "how to work with models" right from greeting them.  Please try and be here five or so minutes early.

** Not expected, but in situations like this it's not uncommon for the audience to want to tip the model for her graciousness.  If you'd like, feel free to.

** You are going to learn a LOT:
About getting the pose and look (extracting the facial expression is the hardest).  Which means you'll learn about body lines/angles, head, arms, legs, hands and making different facial expressions.  She'll probably be learning right along with you. I never expect a model to know any of this.  And Make up, I'll be helping her apply the most important aspects.

** You'll also get to hear my thinking out loud:
About camera setting, lighting placement, adjustment, gobos, etc.

** The session will be shot live to a large monitor:
And spread across four others computers real time throughout the studio.  We'll all be seeing every little thing, good and bad real time.

** You'll see a photographer and model review a session together:
No patting on back now.  Good is good, not good is what we keep focusing on until it is.

** This is primarily a "working with models" event:
With some lighting and camera settings thrown in.  If you don't know what a setting means, such as f-stop, I will not be stopping to explain it.  But, I will state which I'm using and why.

** This is not a "shoot the model" type of thing:
Actually, I'm the ONLY one that can shoot her.  Agencies normally only want approved photographers taking pictures of their models.   You will see every shot come up, so you won't miss out on what lighting changes, camera settings effect, etc.

** What to bring: I'll have chilled bottle water, if you'd prefer something else bring it.  Something for taking notes.

NOTE: GPS/mapping may take you around the corner.  Follow the "how to find us" above once you're at Houghton & Bilby.

!-PLEASE ARRIVE A FEW MINUTES EARLY AS THE CLASS STARTS 11AM SHARP! If you have any troubles finding us feel free to call[masked]-!

There will be, but it will be a post workshop handout of what we learned throughout the day. I could have given one before hand, but wouldn't have included any special situations I (we) encounter throughout the shoot. But, most will probably sink right in.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
