Mentoring Hour

  • April 5, 2014 · 10:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

(An organizer is here setting up around 9:30am. Any/all members are welcome to come at 9:30'ish to help us setup. It is VERY much appreciated)

* Tables have Brand names on the end, find your brand and have a seat.  There may be more than one table with your brand, PLEASE try and even out the number of students at each table.

* As you enter there are name tags on a table, please wear a tag thank you.

Mentors! As you pick tables please keep some distance from other tables to help reduce crosstalk noise, thank you.

During this hour members get to meet with more experienced users and pick their brains!

Thus we have "mentors" and "students", when you RSVP please answer the question if you are coming as a mentor or student. Sometimes it's almost one-on-one, other times small groups broken into camera brands. It all depends on the turn out as our mentors are volunteers, and a huge "thank you" to them.

Anyone can offer to come as a mentor (puh-lease DO!) if they feel they have enough experience with their brand.

Bring your camera and manual, and get some hands-on help. The mentoring concentrates mainly on understanding the camera functions, and less on photographic art and technique.

You are welcome to come during this time and just hang out, show off your gear to others, chat, etc. BUT please keep enough distance between yourselves and the mentor/student groups so as not to disturb them.. pretty please and thank you :)

We have a dedicated table for members to bring and display prints. Feel free to come during this hour to layout your work and browse others. This table stays up til the end of the main meetup which follows this mentoring hour.

See you there!

Bummed that I had to leave early, I thought the meeting was an hour so I only set up childcare for that long. Hopefully I can stay for the entire mentor hour and meeting next time .

Jayne, mentoring is one hour (10am-11am) then starts our main meeting, followed by social and lunch. Each has their own event/rsvp page. Sorry for any confusion :(

There are plenty of Canon shooters at this meetup, and they're wonderfully helpful, even if they've chosen the wrong camera, lol!

Most folks had questions about software, post processing, monitors, etc! Not the buttons on their camera's! At first I was encouraged to bring my camera and manual, as an example, but now that gets "in the way". People want to know about my equipment, not their cameras. I'll be leaving mine home for now, and work harder at getting people to talk about their problems.

Alan, Thank you for chiming in on the existence of the Tucson Photoshop for Photographers meetup group. Because of work, i have only dropped by two of Steve's classes over the last 2.5 years. Around the time that I dropped by his class, I was also running out to Phoenix for another meetup group that covered Lightroom and photoshop. From my experience- While you can develop a great understanding of Lightroom by simply jumping into it and just experimenting, It definitely helps to attend additional groups that break the learning down into structured segments. There are plenty of neat tricks you can do with Lightroom (and endless options with P.S.) so it helps tremendously!

I don't always have questions of my own, but I have learned quite a bit from the mentoring hour just by listening to other's questions. Something else I've discovered is that by changing mentoring groups occasionally, you can learn more. I really appreciate the mentors and the time they take with all of us. Thanks so much.

Hi, this will be my first meeting. I recently moved here from Florida. I have taught a class over the years, Digital Cameras for Dummies. The students in the class bring everything from point and shoot digital cameras to DSLR cameras. I will be glad to assist in anyway I can. Sony alpha 900 is my preference for digital photography.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
