My connection with the Tarot began in 1978 when a friend gave me the gift of a crisp new deck and a book to study along with it. 33 years later that same deck is a weathered old friend. The book was The Tarot, A Key To The Wisdom Of The Ages, by Paul Foster Case, and it has long been my primary source for interpretation of the meaning of the occult symbolism shown in the cards. Because it is inclusive, non-sectarian and expansive in nature, the study of the Tarot has become a spiritual practice that I can personally embrace. Like many other spiritual practices, interpreting the Tarot is a matter of belief, intuition, concentration and application. The art of interpretation is subjective, and there is no substitute for personal intuitive experience. Therefore, any investigation of this art must include time spent in meditation and contemplation.
The reasons I felt motivated to organize this meetup are simple. I love talking about the Tarot and I'd like to do more readings for other people! I'm also guessing that others will welcome the mind-quieting benefits of the Tarot as much as I do.
After four years, I'm still really excited about this group! People use Tarot in many different ways, but one of the most powerful for me is how it helps to connect me with other people. There's consistently a nice blend of beginners and experienced Taroists, which creates an atmosphere that's informative and often, pretty entertaining!
