Rio Vista Natural Resource Park (map)
***We have changed the location for this event - we will NOT be at Catalina State Park!!!***
Everyone is welcome, including those who are new to raw foods - or just raw curious, and those who do not necessarily eat 100% raw or vegan. Simply come with your open mind and heart, and an appetite for a raw vegan feast!
The potluck will be held at Rio Vista Natural Resource Park, 3974 N. Tucson Blvd.. [The park is off the beaten track but easy to find. Simply drive all the way to the north end of Tucson Blvd. The last major cross street as you are going north will be Prince Rd. Continue north after Prince for about 1 mile and Tucson Blvd. will veer right into the parking lot at the very end.]
This should be a great location for our potluck. The park borders the multi-use trail along the Rillito River and it's less than a mile on the trail to St. Phillips plaza, where the Farmer's Market is held between 9 a.m. & 1 p.m. Dogs on leashes are welcome in the park. Consider biking or walking to the Market beforehand.
Perhaps some of you who are interested in going to the Farmer's Market will want to decide on a specific time to meet and do the Market as a small group. Feel free to post a comment on the page here to let others know your intentions. If someone wants to officially lead this activity we can set it up as event.
We will be at the large ramada which is a short distance from the parking lot. There are two picnic tables for our buffet. For seating, please bring a folding chair of some sort, and/or a picnic blanket if you'd like. There is also a playground area in this general vicinity.
For the potluck, please arrive between 12:00 and 12:20 p.m. if possible. We will start with our circle of introductions and a quick description of what we brought to share, promptly at 12:30 p.m., and then commence with the feast soon thereafter. You are welcome to show up later but it is strongly recommended to show up on time to insure your maximum enjoyment of the different foods at the potluck. The good dishes can go quick! If you arrive earlier you will also have more of a chance to chat and get to know your fellow Tucson Raw Foodies beforehand.
Please observe the following guidelines:
1. Bring a raw, organic and vegan dish that will serve 8 - 12 people. Either show off your raw cuisine prowess by preparing an interesting mouthwatering entree or salad, a raw organic vegan dessert (homemade or store bought), or buy something from the prepared raw food section of your local organic market. Please bear in mind that anyone can make a green salad at home so if you bring one, please make it distinctive. If you are new to raw foods and would like suggestions as to what to make or buy for the potluck, please contact me, Jha'en, and I will be happy to give you some simple ideas. As well, the internet is a great source for raw vegan recipes, just enter "raw food recipe" into your favorite search engine :)
2. PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO BRING UTENSILS TO SERVE YOUR DISH!!
3. Provide your own plate/eating platter, eating utensils, cup, and NAPKIN. We want to minimize clean up and waste. (We will have a limited number of paper plates and plastic utensils available in case you forget or so as not to discourage anyone from attending).
4. Bring your own non-alcoholic beverage of choice (although interesting raw cooler drinks would be more than welcome potluck fare - I just don't suggest we count on others to bring enough beverages for all of us).
4. Please furnish a list of the ingredients that are in your dish to be displayed on the serving buffet. Optionally, please post your recipe to the message board where we now have a special area for potluck recipes. You can also email your recipe to me, and I can post it for you if you're not sure how to do that. Our members will appreciate the resource, and it will help to provide creative inspiration for future potlucks!
5. If you have a business or service that you would like to network within our community, you are welcome to bring business cards and literature to share - we will have a spot for that specifically that our members can browse as they desire. However, please remember this is intended to be a social event and not a business networking event :)
Hope to see you all there!
