WORLD WAR Z, in 3D, at the Varsity

Hi everyone! This Tuesday let's watch WORLD WAR Z, the new big-budget zombie apocolypse movie starring Brad Pitt as a mild-mannered U.N. employee and family man who has to save the world. Apparently the movie originally cost $130 million to make, which climbed to $200 million after the ending was completely changed and re-shot. To be honest, I'm not really into zombie movies, but this one is getting so much hype and is supposedly an "adult treatment" of the subject, so let's check it out. The movie has received moderately positive reviews, currently running 68% on rottentomatoes.com who say it is "uneven" but "still brings smart, fast-moving thrills and a solid performance from Brad Pitt to the zombie genre". So, please come see it with us!

SHOWTIME: 7:20 pm on Tuesday July 9 at the Varsity Cinema. (confirmed) (movie length = 1h55m)

MEETING TIME: 6:50-7:00pm (confirmed)

MEETING LOCATION: At the Varsity Cinema, just past the ticket-takers, by the customer service desk. Look for tall hairy Jeff with a yellow MEETUP sign.

TICKETS: This movie costs $10.99 (or $9.89 with a Scene card) since it is in 3D; you may wish to purchase your ticket in advance at http://www.cineplex.com/Theatres/TheatreDetails/Cineplex-Odeon-Varsity-and-VIP-Cinemas.aspx

MOVIE INFO AND REVIEWS: See the film's rottentomatoes page.

TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcwTxRuq-uk

AFTER THE MOVIE: Let's all discuss the movie for a few minutes as a group right in the cinema lobby. Then, interested persons may wish to go for drinks and socialising, probably at the Foxes Den bar at 1075 Bay Street.

I hope to see you there!

FINAL NOTE (again): My term as meetup organiser will end in mid-July, and I am not planning to renew. So, if anyone would like to take over as organiser of this meetup group, then please e-mail me right away to discuss that. Otherwise, the group might come to an end in mid-July (though of course there are several other Toronto movie-watching groups out there). In any case, thank you all for your loyal participation in this group over the past years.

Best wishes, Jeff

"World War Z is a poor movie that boosts Brad Pitt, racism, and sexism. For a fairly crowded theater, I have never seen it empty as quickly as it did yesterday."

An entertaining movie, I didn't really care about the plot hole bog enough. To fit a couple billion zombies into.

Well organized, and a lively post-film disucssion took place. id not enjoy the movie at all: action sequences and every cliché plot device one could think of, some even multiple times.

Hi all, I'll have to give this one a miss tonight. With the storm that crippled the GTA yesterday, I thought it'd be best not to venture out too far tonight, in case it happens again. I hope you all enjoy though! :-)

I want to see this movie but I have a previous commitment. I can't make the next 2 Tuesdays, either. Who is taking over the group after Jeff leaves?
