Zvi's Choice: "CHEF", Movie at 7:10 pm

For Canada Day, I (Zvi) will be hosting Chef. Or, you could join Jeff ...

Happy Canada Day, everyone!  Tonight I (Jeff) will skip movie meetup and instead attend a Canada Day music-and-fireworks meetup in North York (  So feel free to join me there if you wish.  Alternatively, Zvi will host a movie meetup tonight, as follows:

Happy Canada Day!

For this Tuesday, let's see the comedy I've been interested in seeing since I saw the trailer months ago, CHEF.

CHEF is directed & written by Jon Favreau, and stars, Jon Favreau, Bobby Carnavale, & John Leguizamo. The rest of the first billed cast includes Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman, & Sofia Vergara. We even get some additional "Canadian content" for our Canada Day meetup in the form of Oliver Platt & one of my personal favourite funny men, Russell Peters.

IMDB writes: "A chef who loses his restaurant job starts up a food truck in an effort to reclaim his creative promise, while piecing back together his estranged family."

The movie is running 89% on with audience reaction at 90% (as of Jun.24), who write: "Chef's charming cast and sharp, funny script add enough spice to make this feel-good comedy a flavorful -- if familiar -- treat."

Please note that this is a Tuesday and it is Canada Day, and the combination has historically resulted in busy and/or sold out movie showings. While this is not a first week movie, you may want to buy your ticket in advance to avoid the risk of disappointment. I've already purchased mine.

SHOWTIME: 7:10 pm on Tuesday July 1 at Cineplex Varsity and VIP.  (movie length = 1h55m)

MEETUP TIME: 6:45 pm - 7:00 pm

MEETUP LOCATION: At the Cineplex Cinemas Varsity & VIP cinema, beside the customer service desk, located just behind the ticket takers. I will have a sign that says, "Tuesday Night at the Movies".

TICKETS: This movie costs just $7.99 (or $7.19 with a Scene card).

YOUTUBE (Trailer):

AFTER THE MOVIE: Let's all discuss the movie for a few minutes as a group in the hallway directly in front of the theatre room that the movie will play in.

I hope to see you there!

For those who were hoping for a different type of movie, I may end up hosting 4 of the 5 meetups this July (if noone else volunteers to host), so we'll have ample opportunities to catch something different. It just seems appropriate to me to celebrate Canada Day with a comedy.
