"Mad Hot Ballroom" / "Strictly Ballroom" double bill (outdoors @ Dundas Square)

About the meetup:

Two back-to-back movies under the stars in Dundas Square! What could be more "summertime in Toronto"? We'll meet up in the seating section at  6 p.m., then go off to pick up food in small groups, then back to our seats to mingle and munch. We'll eat and socialize in the seats, then watch two back-to-back movies! Be sure to bring a sweater to help hold seats. We followed this format at an outdoor screening at Harbourfront recently and it was lots of fun. What food is nearby? Well, there's Chipotle, Nasrin's favourite. What else can you guys suggest for quick takeout? Feel free to comment below. Cost: free! Just bring some money for takeout dinner if you'd like.

About the movies:
Mad Hot Ballroom (2005) 105 min. Rated: PG The students of several New York City elementary schools learn ballroom dancing and compete in a city wide dance competition. Director: Marily Agrelo Stars: Heather Berman, Emma Therese Biegacki, Paul Daggett

Strictly Ballroom (1992) 94 min. Rated: PG A maverick dancer risks his career by performing an unusual routine and sets out to succeed with a new, ugly duckling partner. Love is in the air for our second Baz Luhrmann classic... Director: Baz Luhrmann Stars: Paul Mercurio, Tara Morice, Bill Hunter

*Seating is provided; first-come,first-serve*

We will likely not be going out afterward, as we'll socialize between 6 - 7, and then the movies will run until 10 p.m. Unless you're really gung ho - then you can try to talk us all into it!

The following week, we'll be heading to a pub so that I can give you all a hug goodbye as I say farewell to Toronto for a while. See you soon!

The movies were both super enjoyable, and what a fantastic venue! Breezy, bright, and with only an occasional siren or motorcycle blasting by.

Absolutely lovely film. Positive in the best sense of the word. It restores your faith in the human race, especially inner city America.

The movie was swell, as for the venue, it is always wonderful to be outdoors.

As I understand, that wouldn't be necessary because the square will be filled with plenty of chairs, and we should be getting there early enough to score some. But maybe somebody who has been to a Dundas Square movie before can weigh in with their thoughts...

Would it be helpful if we bring our own chairs (eg camp chairs)? Or will there be enough seats there?

I have a doctor's appt. downtown at 6:00 so will have to miss part of the first movie. I should be there before 7:00.
