Let's discover who's next door in the Tufnell Park area and connect

Let's create a Micro Community and find the community catalysts. Tufnell Park is having a makeover and coming of age with all the new shops and businesses coming into the area and existing ones having a facelift. This has always been an interesting area though with cool creative people but let's starting connecting and meeting in one of our great local venues. Let's get together for a drink and chat, network and find out who's in the local neighbourhood. Neighbourhoods are often social communities with considerable face-to-face interaction among members so this group will provide a platform for people to meet, network, share stories, make new friends, business contacts, have a drink, eat, listen to music and more. All are welcome. Looking forward to connecting. The first meet-up in Tufnell Park will be upstairs at the brand new Cardigan Club Cafe on Fortess Road (French-Vietnamese Streetfood) See Cardigan Club Cafe for more details. I'm also hoping we'll be able to sample some lovely local ice cream from Ruby Violet opposite Ruby Violet Ice Creams This group will be particularly for people interested in the Media, Arts, Design, Marketing, Media, Fashion, Dance, Current Affairs, Humanitarian issues, Politics, Environment, Sustainability, World Film, World Music, Cooking, Activism, Recycling, Neighbourhoods and Music.

We had a few people attend from the network 'Just for the Love of It' www.justfortheloveofit.org which is an organisation promoting the 'Freeconomy' whose Community's aim is to help reconnect people in their local areas through the simple act of sharing. Also another interesting collaborative initiative is Streetbank. Streetbank is a brilliant website that lets neighbours share their things and their skills with each other. It is helping to bring back a sense of community to streets, and 'make the world that little bit nicer' - now what's not to like about that? www.streetbank.com and I hope to promote our Meet-up through all these interesting networks going forward.

A big thank-you to everyone who attended last night. I think as a first Meet-Up the "Tufnell Park Gathering" was a huge success with good foundations to build on for future events. It was great to hear everyone's 'Tufnell Park insights' including the legend that is Clarence the Cat. Is the name right? A special thank-you to the venue and Minh chi who very kindly let us use upstairs at no cost. And of course a special thank-you to Julie from Ruby Violet who was very kind in bringing over three of her delicious ice-creams to sample. I believe it's important to support our independent local artesian businesses where possible as opposed to the corporates. Finally many thanks to Phil, his cat stories and for bringing his guitar. Not forgeting Sonia for helping out on the music front by playing the Cahon. I see this as a monthly gathering and will set a date today and venue in the coming days for the next one. I think it makes sense have alternate days each month. Best Wishes Iain

Hi, I'll be popping in. I think this is a great meet up, I've lived here for 7 years and don't know nearly enough of my neighbours. See you there!

I understand the venue closes at 10pm so be sure to make it before then if you're coming. However, if people want to carry on after that we could always go off to The Junction Tavern for last orders etc

    I should make it 8.00ish.
Our little enclave of roads in Tuffy P has its own Facenook page which is quite active with local events / projects
Bit late this time, but might be useful to post an invite on there for next time

Sounds great. For sure next time and we can go and try out a different or bigger venue. Let's discuss tonight :)

Morning everyone. I hoped you all had a good bank holiday and enjoyed Carnival if you went. One day to go and hope to see you all on Wednesday evening. The venue is BYO so we can bring our own booze. You can buy soft drinks there like teas and coffees and food of course if anyone feels peckish etc. There's a few more people haven't created profiles yet who will be attending but spread the word to as many locals as possible and ask that they create profiles so we have a bit of background on who's who and an RSVP list etc. Any questions drop me a line. Cheers Iain

Is it ok just to grab a cup of tea (or a beer) @ Cardigan Club ?
** I feel Ruby Violet Icecream however, should be mandatory.

      August 21, 2013

    • Iain P.

      ooops yes.

  • Iain P.

I just need to clarify what we can and can't bring with Minchi at the venue but as its BYO - bring your own drinks I think we can bring some beer or wine to share. Maybe if we have any cooks among us someone could make some cup cakes? I don't think they serve alcohol but you can buy soft drinks there. I will check this week and will post a note x

Hi Amy welcome on board. I'm just waiting for confirmation that the Cardigan Club will host us upstairs and then I will be finalising the times and venue but have moved it back a week. I will go and replace the posters this week with the new time and should have the venue confirmed by then . I'm hoping the icecream shop will bring us over some ice cream that night to try too so am just co-ordinating a few different people.
