This opportunity to hike the Ancient Forest is Saturday August 11, 2012. We will hike both trails within the Keystone Ancient Forest near Keystone Lake west of Sand Springs. You will be surrounded by a classic crosstimbers forest with 500 year old cedars and 300 year old Post Oak trees. You will experience a grand view of the Arkansas River Basin where famed American author Washington Irving passed by and camped in 1832. Irving is known for "the Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle". The trails are inside a 1,360 nature preserve listed by The Nature Conservency as one of the last great places on Earth. The trails (a 3 mile and a 0.6 mile) are rated easy to moderate. Many would consider them easy with graveled trails. No pets are allowed. Call or email organizer Glen Brewington of Backwoods for information. Meet at Backwoods to caravan/carpool ready to leave at 8:00am Saturday morning August 11, 2012. Bring water, insect repellant and sunscreen and please dress appropriately for anticipated weather. Please join us! The facility only allows entrance inside the forest once a month and the early time was selected to allow us to walk in cooler morning temperatures and it is not an intent to compete with other meetup hikes.
