Hi Nettie, Darren from SMG here. If you are planning on climbing Shasta in June, you could of course come with us and we will show you all the necessary first steps in mountaineering to accomplish a climb like that. Otherwise, you could hire a guide service. I recommend Shasta Mountain Guides. There are some instructional videos out there, some that we've built ourselves. Self arrest, self belay and solid crampon footwork are definitely important skills to have to climb Shasta.
