We are proud to introduce the new talk series in 2013 called “History Talks” organized as interactive and informal gatherings where we will be discussing various historical topics and issues. Pizza and beverages will be served as compliments of TASMN.
Topics will include:
• History of Istanbul before and After the Turkish Era
• Daily Life in Ottoman Empire
• Harem and Women in the Ottoman Empire
• Art and Culture
• Islamic Architecture
• Religious Controversies
To encourage interaction there will be suggested reading articles prior to meeting such as short articles and primary sources (e.g., archival documents, historical chronicles)
The program will be held every two week on Tuesdays at TASMN Center. History Talks will be moderated by Hasan Karatas, professor of History at the University of St. Thomas. Dr. Karatas specializes on urban history, religion and politics, and religious architecture in the Ottoman Empire. Graduate of U.C. Berkeley, Dr. Karatas worked and made research in San Francisco Bay area, Middle East and NYC.

Fee: Admission is free, donations are welcome. TASMN is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
