Come on out to Freethinking Camping in beautiful Cannon Falls, MN, just a short drive about 30 miles South East of St. Paul!

Camping will take place at a secluded private residence. There are private areas to set up camp, or set up closer to civilization if you'd like. The residence is only 100 yards away from the local Cannon Valley Bike Trail, and near the swimming and water-fun friendly Cannon River for the rustics, with a swimming pool available as well for those who are more urban. This is a family-friendly event with lots for the kiddies to do as well!

The event is limited to around 50, so RSVP early to get your spot!

***This year we will be doing our 3rd Annual free-will donation to Camp Quest. Do not feel like you have to donate, but there will be a collection taken for those of us who want to give back to freethinking kid campers in Minnesota! Last year we raised $615.00 together (the year before that was $350.00)- let's try to beat that this year! We get better and better every year!

Saturday Afternoon/Evening:

Set up to start on Saturday at 2pm, dinner around 5pm. Detailed list of food/drink info for supper, snacks & breakfast is listed below at the end of the post.

Sunday Morning: the canoe trip is scheduled for Sunday morning until early afternoon.  Please state when you RSVP if you'd like to also attend the canoe trip so that we can make a reservation for you. (You will have to pay for canoe rental fee.) We will verify exact times of canoe trip when the date gets closer.

Not a camper? Feel free to come hang out Saturday night without spending the night!

Activities Available: Bike riding/walking/roller-blading on the bike trail (some bikes available if needed); horses- driving the cart or riding/swimming in the river; swimming (river and pool); and an awesome campfire!

Doggilies: Feel free to bring furry friends, but please be responsible for your animal!

Canoe/Kayak/Bike Rental: There are also businesses just up and down the river (about 6 miles away) that rent canoes, kayaks, tubes, and bikes. (They also provide shuttle service back to your car for these activities.) Please see the following websites for more information:

Items that will be provided for campers:

Dinner is a potluck. Please bring a dish to share with the other campers. Make sure it's something that's easy and doesn't need any (or minimal) prep so that it can be ready to serve.

Had a great time at the farm. Really enjoyed meeting everyone, esp. my Cards Against Humanity opponents.

Thank you for the wonderful hospitality! The farm is beautiful.
Some people asked so here is the recipe for Greek Potato Salad (credit to my Greek landlord years ago):
8 potatoes boiled with the skin on
1 large sweet onion coarsely chopped
    1/4-1/3 cup olive oil
    Juice of 1 lemon
Tablespoon chopped oregano (dried or fresh)
    Salt and Pepper
Boil the potatoes until almost tender then run cold water or ice water on them to cool them off. Peel with fingers. Slice in 1 inch cubes. Toss with the remainder of the ingredients, salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm or cold.

Scott and I will be stopping by at some point, just to chat and share the good news about Jesus, but we won't be requiring a camping site.

The river is about average right now... it is generally an "easy" river, but there will be a few moments that feel adventurous. You might consider one canoe and one 4 person raft. You could then take turns in the canoe as well as have a safer place for the youngest ones. If you had two adults in a canoe with small ones, that works, but I might be concerned about small children with one adult. That all depends on your skill level and other factors... but we have had people in canoes dump or tipped by a tree.

There are sandy places to stop and swim, and some calm places to jump out or switch craft. But in the rougher places, a raft seem preferable for the younger kids.

Please reserve 1 single kayak for me please. Thanks! Is anyone planning to bike, and when?

    • Rhonda

Michelle, my family plans to bike; however, since my son is now an inch taller than me, he inherited my bike, so I'm now without a bike. If I don't buy one this week, I may need to borrow one.

We have quite a few bikes here. You can borrow my "Made in Detroit" bike (the tires are new :) )

FYI: The Cannon Cruisers classic car show is Sunday, until 2PM in Cannon Falls. If you're into classic cars, you can probably catch the show after camp - admission is $3 (under 12 free with an adult). NW edge of Cannon Falls, Hannah's Bend Park (parking at the fairgrounds). The cruise is Friday night at 7PM if you want to make a weekend of it.
