Paddle Grey Cloud island

I have paddled this several times and I always try to make it when the Giant water lotus is in bloom. Also lots of birds to see.
Meet at the public access on Spring Lake off Hilary Path a minimum maintenance road. We start the paddle on time. Bring lunch and lots of water. Dress for the weather. Sunscreen is a a good idea. I will have maps for you. Bring a gallon zip bag to protect your map. Send me and email and I will return My cell # and a map.  ([masked]) Come early I expect confusion finding the access. We paddle promptly at 10:45 AM. Let me know if you have questions.

I will be there 9:30 or so. I have contacted the Spring lake Park offices and lined up place to shuttle cars and park. I will have maps for the parking location as well as the maps for the paddle.

    Hi Al of you<

There could be as many as 50 + paddlers. The river can handle all of us but the parking may be a issue. So I call the county park and found a place where we can park. Come early. We need to adjust to the conditions. Also bring a gallon bag to protect a map I have for you.

je weather should be the best we can want. sun hat and water are in order

If you have a question contact me at paulkayak@icloud,com

Hi Tracey. I just registered my spare kayak. I'll see you on Sunday. I'll be driving a burgundy Ford Freestyle. Kayaks are an orange Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 and a 9.5 foot red (I forget the make). I have gray hair and beard.

    Hello All Paddlers,

There is a lot of paddlers planning to come. Could reach 50 people. And parking may be a problem. Come early so we can adjust to what ever the conditions are. I am thinking we may have to unload the boats and shuttle cars out to Spring Lake Park in the area. Last year there were about 25 paddlers and we had trouble finding enough parking for all. When we are in the water the river can handle us all. It would be great if you can car pool.

I have a swifty 9.5 you can use. Also if I remember right, the road to the launch is in pretty bad shape and the parking lot is small. Suggest parking at the park above and carpooling?

    July 3, 2013

    • Michael

I should, do you need a paddle or life jacket?

      July 30, 2013

  • Michael

yes, Hilary Path launch is small and the road is not maintained.
Is there still a DNR launch on Grey Cloud Island? If I remember right, it had plenty of parking.

    July 30, 2013

  • Julie S.

Just wondering about parking; last time I used the boat launch from Hilary Path, there wasn't a lot of parking. We might want to think about dropping the kayak's at the boat launch, then heading east to Spring Lake Park, Shaar's Bluff for parking. We will have to car pool back to Hilary Path.

I'd love to come but don't have a kayak -- is there a way to rent one here, or borrow?

    July 29, 2013

    • Maya

Tyler, thanks so much, I will borrow your kayak, then. Do you have an extra paddle as well?

      July 29, 2013

    • tyler

I do, life jacket as well.

      July 29, 2013

Whoops Gary noticed it. The time is 10:45 AM

If you send me a direct email email I will return to you My cell # in the event you have trouble finding the boat access.

I will have some maps of the area we are paddling bring a gallon zip bag to protect the map.

Plan 4-5 hours of paddling with a lunch break.

    10:45 PM?

    July 7, 2013

  • Paul B.

The water will not be white water but could get some waves on the larger areas. Paddle map:
Every one should have a map, compass and know where they are at all times. I have known people to get turned around in this area. I wouldn't be surprised to see up to 50 paddlers on this trip. And I don't expect paddlers to stay together. Car pooling is recommended. Parking could be an issue.
If you send me an email to [masked] I will send you my cell # and a paddle map. I don't want to post my cell # publicly.

    Bring:
A gallon Zip bag to protect your map. Bring water, sunscreen, hat, lunch. I leave a change of cloths in the car.

    Read through all the comments

Directional map to the DNR access is located above I will do this trip in any weather. I may let a thunder storm pass before getting on the water. It never rains all day. Light rain will be a go.

    :-) Paul

  • Diane

Is the map directions to get to the place?

    July 5, 2013

  • Diane

What is the map for? About how long do U think we will be out & is this an easy paddle, no whitewater?

    July 5, 2013

  • Paul B.

I think Michael is correct. there is lots of interest. Wouldn't surprise me to see 50 paddlers. If there more than 20 cars the parking may be an issue. Carpooling is a good idea. I'm not concerned about the road as long as you drive carefully and choose your track. I the spring this could be more of an issue. The road is rough. Drive slow.
