Shuttle arrangements for Kinnickinnic trip

For anyone bringing their own kayaks/canoes on the Kinni trip: We'll meet at 9:15 AM to coordinate who's hauling the boats to Glen Park and who's leaving vehicles at the state park. Plan to be on the road back to Glen Park by 9:30.

Due to construction, there is limited parking at the state park. I think we'll want to leave most of the vehicles at Glen park. Meet at the beach. Don't park in the construciton area or you'll get a ticket.

You will need a state park permit to enter the park. The fee is $10 per day or $5 for 1 hour (to drop off your boat with the group and leave your car at Gel park the rest of the day.)

If you are renting a kayak or canoe from one of the outfitters near the Kinni, you do not have to rsvp for this meetup. Your shuttle is included in the rental fee.

I just checked the map for Kinnickinnic, there's 5 parking lots in there. Which one are we meeting at? Perhaps the parking lot at the very end?

Sounds good Sue -- I didn't think your comment came off that way at all. You plan on heading to the parking lot down by the picnic area/beach? That's where I planned to dump my car and throw my yak in the back of someone's truck/trailer for a ride up to Glen Park. :)

I hope my last comment didn't come across as "I'm gonna take my ball and go home" Didn't intend it that way.

I think it's too short notice to change. Some people may not see the change before we go tomorrow. I would prefer to stick with the original plan.

If people feel strongly about meeting at the other end, you can always post a 2nd shuttle meetup. Go to the suggested meetups page and suggest it. Once 2 more people rsvp, it will be broadcast to the rest of the group. Bit if you do that, please change your rsvp here so we're not waiting for you.

    Hi Sue,

Can you confirm meeting point for tomorrow - there've been a couple different suggestions so want to make sure we're all on the same page.

    Thanks!

Lori, there is plenty of parking at Glen Park (put-in location) and at the state park (take-out location). The construction is occurring at the County F bridge, which is upstream of our take-out spot and on the border of the state park. It has a parking lot ("Angler's lot") and usually serves as the take-out spot for many kayakers, but the parking lot is now closed due to construction. We are avoiding this area. See map at: http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/name/kinnickinnic/pdfs/kinnparkmap.pdf

Could anyone explain which is the drop off point? I'm confused with hearing about the lack of parking and construction. Is Glen Park where we drop off and is that not part of the state park? Is their free parking at Glen Park?

    July 6, 2012

  • Lori M.

That sounds like it totally makes sense to me!

So we're going to meet at the end first? Meaning we'll all be having to pay the fee to enter the park? I agree with Mark, we meet at the start, drop our boats, then the multi-boat vehicles drive to the end and then carpool back up to the start. Make sense?

I can bring my trailer which means I could carry 3 kayaks total, including mine.

I signed up for Kinni-kayaks' shuttle back from the state park today.

I also have a state Park sticker and can carry people or one other kayak over.

I will be at the Glen Park starting point around 9:30...I still have a few spots left for rentals or shuttle service. Also if I have to make a few trips back to River Falls from the State park beach I would be willing to do so. It is a very spot to hang out and wait for the return shuttle....your at the BEACH! See ya on Sat!

  • Amy

Should we meet up just at the entrance so we can figure out which cars will go where before buying the State Park passes?

    July 5, 2012

  • Sue

Kinni-kayaks will shuttle. Their contact info is listed with the rest of the info for this trip. If you want to do that, you don't have to rsvp here. Some people prefer to do their own shuttle so I created this meetup to that. I have a pickup and can haul at least 4 boats. Maybe six depending on the sizes.

I guess I'm still confused. Isn't there an option to pay the outfitter to shuttle both us and our own boat back up? Otherwise seems we would need one car per boat. At least my car can only load a single kayak.

  • Krista

I have an annual WI state park sticker, so I'd be happy to leave my car at the park and can help shuttle 3 people back up to get their vehicles at the end of the float.
