Outdoor Climbing @ Taylors Falls

Here is another opportunity for rock climbing at Taylors Falls.

Please make sure to pick up your free MN climbing permit at Self Pay Station. You can also pick up a permit at the Park Ranger's office located at 307 Milltown Road, Taylor Falls, MN, although the Park Ranger's office opens at 9:00am.

The rangers do walk around and ask to see permits.

The drive time to Taylors Falls is around one hour from the Twin Cities.

You will need a Minnesota State Parks Permit to park your car in the parking lot. You can also buy a day park pass.

http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/permit.html

Please bring water/water bottles. A drinking fountain is available in the area.

Restrooms are also available in the visitor center.

Please look for us in the parking lot. A picture of the meeting location is provided below. Please meet between 8:00am and 8:15am.

Otherwise, walk down the paved trail to where the steamboats dock. Then keep going over some rocks and you should see the rock climbing area and us.

(FYI: I think that the picture only loads on computers and does not show up on smartphones):

Climbing at Taylors Falls was a lot of fun. It really doesn't matter what your level is, there's something for everyone. Great scenery and amazing views, I can't wait to go back.

Anyone recommend a spot to get gear for the day? I'm still new to climbing, gone indoor a handful of times, will probably commit and buy my own gear soon... ideas? Excited to meet people!

I have an extra harness and belay tool.

Anyone coming from the River Falls/Hudson WI area that I could carpool with?

    July 4, 2013

  • Deb

I'd like to join you all, however it's been a long time (only indoors). Do you think I could be ready for this if I made it to open climb tonight?? :) What gear would I need? I'd be willing to drive, but don't have the most comfortable back seats.

Everyone is welcome. All you need is a harness and climbing shoes.

Also if you have a rope and anchor gear, please let me know. I have one rope and enough gear to setup one anchor.

Just learned how to belay. I've been to Shovel Point and Taylors Falls so far this summer.

Is Taylor Falls an appropriate location for someone who hasn't climbed outdoors before? I'm a beginner and I regularly climb 5.8s and 5.9s at VEMPLS and would love to try outdoor climbing.

Taylors Falls is great for your first outdoor climbing experience. All levels are welcome to come.

I am new to climbing outdoors as well. I am an inconsistent climber as I live in River Falls, WI.
