Devil's Lake 9/24-26

There was a discussion started about Devil's Lake 9/17-19 by Mark Weinfurter that also developed into the 9/24-26. So, here is a posting for 9/24-26. I think Chad Miller is a definite for this weekend. There seems to be a handful of people interested in making a weekend trip. This posting is to help you organize. I may or may not be attending, but was there a couple of times this year and highly recommend Devil's Lake for climbers of ANY ability. There are over 1600 recorded climbs in the park ranging from 5.3 to 5.13. All top rope or trad, nothing is bolted. The MN guidebook has a couple hundred climbs in it. There is also a Devil's guidebook specific to the area, 3rd edition has 1600+ in many different areas of the park. Questions to answer amongst yourselves: - when are you leaving? carpooling? coming back? - reserve a campsite? - what gear can you contribute? - what level climbing do you want to do? - are you a confident/competent anchor setter? End of climbing season is rapidly approaching! Get outside while you still can!!! Feel free to email me with any questions, otherwise just use the message board on this event page to figure out your trip. sean

Because of the weather I will not be leaving till Friday morning. Setting up and camping in the rain just dosnt appeal to me. I will grab a site with an open one next to it.

I won't be camping this weekend, turns out I had plans Saturday that I forgot about. I still will be there to climb both days. [masked] is my number, I can meet you all wherever you're climbing that day.

So I have changed my rsvp to +1. I will also now be driving up with a friend of mine. Thanks again Chad for being such a cool guy and offering me to tag along with you in your vehicle! So as of now it sounds like we will have all the gear we need and we're all camping at Devil's Lake Ice Age Campground, or at least going to try. Here is my cell number to take down. [masked]-3465. Maybe we should designate a location to all meet at a certain time?? Maybe dinner and a bonfire together?? Lemme know!

Chad there are group campsites at Devils lake they are by the CCC trail on the East end of the lake. But I think a few sites suit us just fine. I will admit I would prefer camping at Devils Lake. I will leave on Thursday evening, if there is anyone else that wants to come they are welcome to car pool with me. I will leave a note with the rangers as to what site I'm at also I do believe there is a message board. My cell is[masked] 9473. I have plenty of gear and have guide book and gear.

One other important question, who has the equipment for setting anchors and rope? I don't! Also we should probably all exchange phone numbers in cause someone can't find the grounds or the group. Let me know your thoughts!

Hey everyone! So as we get closer to fun in Devil's Lake I was thinking it would be a good idea get somewhat more organized and answer some of the above questions Sean proposed. Reading the messages through it sounds like Chad and I will be camping both Friday and Saturday, and Dave just Saturday. Mark, JT, and Sean? Also I think Mirror Lake Campground sounds the most attractive but it is further from the climbing area. Chad, do you know if they have a group site?

There is camping in DL campgroud that is wooded in the Ice age campground. I can take one other person but I live in Owatonna. Who is up for camping. Also there is wheeler (sp?) campground about 4 miles away from DL.

    Hey Chad,
It would definitely be ideal to not drive and just ride with someone. I'd be down to take up your offer if its still cool. Let's work out the details by phone or email. I'm looking forward to climbing at Devils Lake and meeting some new climbers!

I'm hoping on coming this weekend! However would more likely go if riding with someone experienced with outdoor climbing and has the equipment needed. If people want to carpool I have a truck that can fit 3 plus me. Let me know!
