New event added to the calender
Join Meetup and MNCC member, Dr. Chris Hanson, for a soft tissue demo at the MNCC on January 16 at 7pm. See the event page and more details here.
New deal for Meetup climbers
The MNCC (MN Climbing Coop) is now offering Meetup climbers a buy one day pass, get one day pass free offer on our occasional Tuesday Intro to the Coop events. When you come to the co-op for a Tuesday night Meetup and purchase a day pass for $10, you will receive a Free admission pass to use on your next visit. You cannot let a friend use it on the same night that you are purchasing it. The Free pass is to encourage you to come back and continue using the MNCC gym.
The next Tuesday event is scheduled for January 10 at 7pm. Visit the event page here.
We tried some new things over the past several weeks and have tweaked the calendar according to the results. I have removed the repeating announcements about regular nights offered by the MNCC and by VE that are not hosted by a meetup climber. The Tuesday night and Tuesday lunch events were not attended with any regularity, so those were taken off the calendar as well.
We are going to continue to promote the Monday and Thursday night climbing events at both Minneapolis and St Paul VE. If you are new to the Meetup group and have trouble finding climbers at the gym, let me suggest visiting either the Uptown or the St Paul Pizza Luce around 10:30 on a Thursday night. That is where the socializing tends to take place post climbing. Monday and Thursdays have long been our regular climbing nights and remain the most popular.
VE in St Paul traditionally holds a competition around Valentines Day called Passion for Flashin'. Many Meetuppers have participated (and placed or won!) past comps. Prairie Walls holds an annual bouldering comp in Rochester that is a fundraiser for the MCA. That usually takes place at the end of February. There are opportunities to volunteer for both if competing isn't your thing, they are fun to participate in as a competitor or a volunteer! Watch for details on both of those as they become available.
If you are an ice climber, you should know that Jeff Engle has started a Facebook page to update the community about the ice farming taking place in Sandstone. Find it here.
