Latin Mix Mondays: Samba

Samba is perhaps the most joyous musical genre of Latin America with its heavy emphasis on rhythm and harmony. As a dance form, it is a genre typically understood in the United States through the interpretation of European and American ballroom.

Samba is a Brazilian music and dance. This class will focus on samba as it is danced in Brazil both solo and as a partner dance. Samba as a solo dance is a good workout (think of zumba and African dance) and as a partner dance (samba de gafieira) it often has the look of salsa crossed with tango.

Here is a sample of Brazilian samba (both solo and partner)

The class will continue throughout June and July.

$10 per class / $40 for a 5 class series
CD of practice music included

We will go to Cafe Maude after class to chat and to chill out :)

Just want to clarify for people that this is a SAMBA class and not a SALSA class. I only emphasize this because some of you are talking about salsa under your RSVP. Samba as a Latin partner dance is similar to salsa in it's basic steps but includes other movements that also resemble tango. It is a more complex dance. Just wanted to clarify. We will also be learning some solo samba moves which can resemble African dance or make people think of zumba.
