Sakatah Singing Hills Trails, Faribault, MN

Located on a converted rail-trail, the Sakatah Singing Hills State Trail offers 39 miles (one way) of paved trail from Faribault to Mankato. The trail leads through small towns and along farmland, woods, wetlands, and a dozen lakes including Sakatah (Dakota for "singing hills") Lake near Waterville. This will be a moderately paced endurance ride. We will probably start at a pace of 14 - 15 mph but by the end we may be down to 13 mph. (Total miles will be 78). We will pass through some small towns where we will be able to get water and hopefully some snacks to refuel with. If you would like to meet and do just a portion of the trail please post that in your RSVP so others who have the same idea may ride with you. We will meet at the trail head in Faribault. Trailhead parking is adjacent to the White Pines dog park, 900 Lyndale Ave N, Faribault, MN. Take I-35 south of Bloomington about 30 miles to Exit 59 (Co Rd 21 South), go south 1.9 miles to White Pines trailhead on the right. A few pot holes, some smelly turkey farms but beautiful scenery and a fantastic 85 mile adventure. Thanks Ozzzzy, Lori and Christine for joining me today. Congrats Ozzzzy for a new personal high mileage ride.

Hi Marilynn, I just moved to Bloomington from Calgary, Canada, for school and am looking to get out and explore the city and surrounding area. I have never been to one of these meetups before and am not really sure what they are like. I'd say I'm a moderate biker, and by no means super experienced. Do you think that this would be a good trail to start with or should I wait for another meetup that might do a shorter trail? I also have another dilemma in that I do not have a vehicle here, do you know if there is any public transport (that takes bikes) that goes to that area? Or would it be possible to potentially carpool with a member? I completely understand if that is not an option or if people do not feel comfortable with that! Thanks for your help!

Hi Michelle. Welcome to the group. For your first ride you may want to consider a shorter one. Tamsie is leading a daily ride at 6:00 p.m. from The Depot, the Stress Reliever series. This would be a great introductory ride to the group and the ride is in the cities so you could either bike to the start or make use of public transportation such as the LRTl or MTC buses. Hope to see you at one of our rides.

I'm not sure if I will ride the whole thing. I have a party in the afternoon. I would be interested in starting earlier if anyone else wants to as well.
