Come join Team Stripper for the Tour de Cure!

Hey all,

Most of you know my son lives with Type 1 Diabetes, so this is a big ride in our lives. It is a fundraising ride, but only a $150 minimum. And it's a FULLY SUPPORTED ride including a Century! Routes are: 7, 18/27, 45, 62, and 100 miles. I'll be riding whatever my son rides at his pace as it's his day. Probably 27 or 45. But we will probably have members riding all distances and I can facilitate getting groups off together.  For those that have been wanting to do a century as a group this is a GREAT opportunity that no one has to not ride and be sag! And it's METRO! No traveling just to pedal!

Our team name is Team Stripper! In reference to the 6-10 test strips my son goes through everyday. We want to END STRIPPING! You can join our team here:

http://main.diabetes.org/goto/TeamStripper (you'll have to copy and paste this to actually get to the site)

If you can't ride with us that day, look for a members name on the team page and help them make their goal.

This is a great ride with a great party at the end. You'll be fed and I'll have a beverage or two for you.

I'm posting this event early. It's a lot easier to fundraise during the holidays. But please register now! I offer lots of rides throughout the year, this is the only one I will ask you to raise money for.

Thanks for hosting JR and what a fun ride

The ride was work, at least for me, but in a good kind of way. And for a good cause.

Thank you JR for being an outstanding host. Congrats to Robbie for his great performance. Ala, it was great for you to share this experience with your Dad and Brother. And I don't know who had the connections for getting us such a great weather day--but THANK YOU whoever you are!

Thank YOU JR for being a fabulous host and rising super early to see us off. And congratulations to Robbie for excellent performance on the 18 mile course. Great day.

I am thankful for those that came out and raised funds to ride with us for this great cause. From those that rode centuries to those that rode 7. I am thankful for those that kicked in to help those that did ride. I am thankful the weather was spectacular for riding this morning. I am proud of my son that rode 18mi at a 15mph average and managed his blood sugars perfectly!
I am humbled by your participation. Thank you, JR

Who is riding 100 miles with me? :o)

I will be there, ready as I can be for 100. Are you doing a pre-ride?

      May 31, 2013

    • Bryan N

No pre ride for me, resting and loading up on carbs...

      May 31, 2013

Riding with my daughter tomorrow; I will look for team stripper. Hope everyone has an awesome ride! Hoping the rain holds off until we are done. ; )

Hey JR I have my ride packet and t-shirt. Are there any lines or things I need to do on Saturday morning?

    May 31, 2013

    • JR

I don't think so. Just that yellow strip when you cross the start and be sure to cross at the end so they don't think you are down on the course

      May 31, 2013

  • JR

These balloons will be tied to a cooler. We will be there rain or shine.

The kids and I are only riding the 18mi at a lazy boy's pace. But we'll be there at 550AM to see the century riders off. I'll be the guy with needles sticking out of my helmet. But we don't go off til 10AM. Here is the schedule for the take off times. They usually start the RED RIDERS (People riding with diabetes) in front in a mock ready set go type thing. But it's no race. Here is the schedule for take off times I'll have a balloon tied to a cooler with "STRIPPER" written across the top. feel free to leave crap around it, but nothing valuable. If you get back before us, please help yourself to anything in the cooler. But over 21 for the Barley pops ;)

Here is the start time schedule:

JR, If you are planning on being there at 6:00AM then I won't get a balloon, etc. But will lead any 100 milers who wish to ride with me.

The Tour DeCure website states the following for the 100 mile ride:

    100 Mile Urban Century Challenge
    - Check-In 5:15 am
    - Ride Start 6:00 am
    - Route Closes 3:00 pm
    - 12 mph min pace, follow pink signs
    - Riders must reach checkpoint at Locks & Dams (mile 83) by 1:30pm to continue

I plan on starting as close to the start time as possible so that I don't have worry about time. Other 100 milers are welcome to join me. Probably roll out by 6:15 or so

    May 28, 2013

    • Bryan N

For those who wish to ride 100 miles with me. I'll have some kind of red balloon tied to me bike around the starting area. 6:15am roll.......

      May 28, 2013

    • mark

I plan to be there. Parking may be an issue.

      May 28, 2013

    JR -
Unfortunately, I'm not able to participate, I've been out with pneumonia for several weeks and am not able to physically ride ;-((
    Have a great time!!

    May 28, 2013

    • Kenny O.

Ruth, if you raised the money and are feeling well enough to ride a short distance, don't hesitate to come out for the 7, 18, 27, or 45 mile routes or just come out and enjoy the party. The party starts at 11am. JR rides fast. I bet he pounds the century out in 5 hours.

    Thank you Mark and Jennifer!

I might not make the minimum fundraising goal. Does that mean I can't ride?

    May 26, 2013

Now you're good to go :)

The ride is next Saturday and packet pickup is this week, but you must have the $150 raised to pick up your packet. So many are very close

Pre Packet Pick-up takes the stress and chaos out of event day. All riders who live within the metro area are required to attend one of the following packet pick-up events. Choose the one most convenient for you and click on the link for address, map, and directions:

Tuesday, May 28: 4-7pm, Allina Plymouth
Wednesday, May 29: 4-8pm, Allina Woodbury
Thursday, May 30: 4-8pm, Allina Commons (Mpls)

You do have to have the $150 minimum to ride, but you are soo close Tamsie.

I'll probably shoot for 45 and may push 62. Doubt I will be ready for 100. Hoping to ride together makes the ride a bit easier.

  • JR

I can't guarantee a group. I know there will be 2 groups going long, an others riding other distances, but couldn't tell you how many of each and how fast. I'll be riding whatever distance my som rides at however fast. I will be there to see groups go off and I will be there at the end at some point. But with 700 riders, you won't be riding alone
