Let's Have Lunch & Organize a "Transplants Helping Transplants" Network

We're meeting for lunch to discuss how to organize a network for transplants to support each other, whether it's welcoming newcomers to the Cities, trading rides to the airport, or just meeting for a cup of coffee in our neighborhoods on a regular basis.

If you're interested in being an active participant in such a network, this meetup event is for you!

Four of us (who attended the initial planning meeting) will be co-hosting this event.

Please plan on having lunch.  Davanni's is generously providing us free meeting space - the expectation is that we spend at least $5 per person - thank you.

Please take the poll that Andy posted on this meetup page about the type of support you'd like - click on the "More" tab above and then click on "Polls."

Unfortunately I won't be able to make this after all. As far as my location, I will be moving from Minneapolis to downtown St. Paul at the end of the month, so put me down for that location. Hopefully I'll be able to make the next meeting.

I will not be able to attend this luncheon, but I took the poll. I am a bit nervous about meeting everyone for the first time, especially a group of 31. Are there venues for a smaller group setting? I live across the street from the Savage "Lifetime Fitness," at the intersection of Dakota and 42.

Tracy- I put you on our list for the Southern Suburbs. Our hope is we have organizers for each area who will volunteer to schedule smaller group meetups after this organizational one.

For those unable to make this meetup but interested in participating in this network, I've emailed you to ask to send me your name and your location - if you live in a big city or suburb, also indicate a landmark like a park or neighborhood name. I will add you to our location lists for tomorrow's meeting. That way, the location "organizers" will know how many are in their area. Thanks.

The poll doesn't allow choosing more than one or adding other suggestions... Any chance of changing that?

Should we have sign-up sheets at the meeting so people can "register" in their desired area?

Great idea - how about St. Paul, Minneapolis, and then whatever burbs are represented? I'll start one for North Central burbs - Roseville, New Brighton, St. Anthony.

There can be periodic postings on the Transplants fb page if some need to reach out for help if they dont get it here. There can be also general postings on fb for general assistance and ideas for help.. I understand that FB is more personal and private but is a great tool to reach out and help build up meetup network group!

It's great to see so many signed up for this! We will be organizing into subgroups by location. The plan is for each subgroup to host periodic meetups (posted as events on our TCT meetup site) in their local area for new folks to join their network - so that it is inclusive. If folks want to communicate with each other (between meetups) by Google Groups, Facebook, Twitter, phone or email, etc. - to ask for a ride to the airport, for example, that will be up to the subgroups to decide. Someone might ask just one person (whom they get to know really well) for a ride, rather asking than the whole subgroup. That part needs to be organic.

Time conflict. Re communications/organizing: Meetup.com uses email as protocol, inclusionary. I believe the 1st mission of the Transplants to be inclusion. Closed FB for area groups seems inconsistent with TCT & Meetup.com. Look to outcomes posted.

We'll be asking your input on:
    1) How do we get organized - will we have "neighborhood organizers" who step up to start these "get to know each other" events? Because of winters and driving convenience, we're thinking that these groups should be organized by neighborhood/location.
    2) How do we track each other and communicate within these neighborhood groups? Closed Facebook groups? An email distribution list? If you have any ideas, post them here - thanks!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
