Valentine's Day Potluck Dessert & Game Night Party

I realize for some February 14th is not a big deal, totally over-rated, no fun without a partner, and a laundry list of other reasons to be hatin' on Valentine's Day (single or otherwise). Though in one way I would agree: why set ONE day aside to celebrate love?... I also think there's no harm in celebrating love!! Too, simply because you may not be "paired off" I don't feel should relegate you to crawling under your bed until the day passes!

I've got access to a private party room - let's get together Valentine's Day evening and play games while indulging in various desserts.

There will be a SPECIAL SURPRISE on the dessert table. Can't spill - you have to come to see it - and believe me, it's worth it.**

Lord, LORD I only WISH it were Ryan.  Aye carumba - now THAT is my kind of Valentine's Day candy.

FEE: To cover costs and discourage no-show's or late cancellations, there will be a $5.00 per person event fee payable IN ADVANCE of the party.  I'm working on how to set this up.  Look for an update...

POTLUCK: This is a dessert potluck - please eat your din-din before coming..unless of course dinner that night IS dessert in which case....I am totally down with that. Indicate in a comment what you intend to bring.  Think VARIETY peeps.  I love brownies as much as the next person but FOUR DOZEN OR MORE of them is cray-cray.

Well, there will be a surprise, but it's not poop.

LOCATION NOTE: There are 2 buildings along Silver Bell Road that are Shannon Glen Condos.  Make sure that you've pulled in to the parking lot for 1871.

PARKING: There is PLENTY of free off-street parking in front of the building!

RSVP CAP: Still don't have editing (not for lack of trying...) so accepting the first 15 people that RSVP "yes" (to allow for 10-20% drop-off).  Another meetup group that my friend Lisa organizes for is also being invited.

Scotia- Sorry I haven't called. This past week I've alternated between feeling really sick and being extremely busy at work. I'll see you Tuesday night at The Melting Pot, though! :)

You poor darling! Really looking forward to that...

Sorry I missed last night. I had something very sinful and a sweet-toothed lovers item prepared. Believe me, your sugar levels would be up until Monday with this dessert (chocolate, caramel, bananas, custard and the secret ingredient).

Nice meeting everyone. I hear my two year old neighbor banged on my door 3 different times before I awoke. He must have sensed something. Thanks for the balloons. He'll have fun, for a week, releasing the balloons getting everyone retrieve them from the ceiling.

As we say in my family, "You'll sleep plenty enough when you're dead," I have no plans on my last day to say, "Gee, if only I'd been more practical, serious, quiet, and repressed I bet I'd have had so much more FUN." Ah, hell no!

A success beyond my wildest dreams. You all pitched in, helped tremendously, and did it with a smile. Lisa and I are so grateful and hope that you had as much fun as we did. Stick a skewer in me: ponytail up, t-shirt & boxers on: I am blissed out, will likely have diabetes by tomorrow morning and going to sleep. :) :) :)

When I said we should do this again, perhaps minus the sugar ... it's nearly 2:30 a.m., and I'm wide awake. Still buzzing! Hoo boy!

Sides = potatoes and gravy, stuffing, muffins or rolls. That's what I'd go for.

Okay, will see what I can find. Thanks!! If we do pizza, should probably order when we get there so it's hot.

  • Sharon

The chicken sounds great! Maybe someone could bring sides to go with it? I haven't had any replies regarding the pizza so maybe it's not a good idea and I could bring sides? Somebody tell me something please! Will leave the house in about an hour and I have no idea what I should bring! Thanks!

Pizza is fine with me. Any kind is good on my end. I'll bring a bottle of wine too.

      1 · February 14

  • Sam S.

Chocolate buzz is fine, today. I'll skip bringing anything chocolaty. Desserts are my dinner/supper. I'll bring a fruit salad. Can bring a rotisserie chicken -- is this OK?
No one mentioned wine. I can bring white or dessert wine.

Just spent the last few hours getting the party room "party-ready" with Lisa. We're both thrilled with how it turned out. I AM SO RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED. Work is going to be such a joke on Friday. Looking forward to seeing you all!!!!! :)

So anyone have any thoughts about the pizza (see comments below)? I could pick it up on my way if no one has a problem with cold pizza. Half cheese, half pepperoni? That seems to be the popular thing, but I prefer sausage. Anyone? Thoughts? Suggestions?

    February 14

  • Sharon

Bugger! Sent too quickly - difficult to imagine 10 desserts for 10 people. Major sugar rush! Gonna be buzzing all night ... or is that the point?? : ) Sure i shouldnt bring a pizza? Been off the grid for a while and looking forward to a night of fun!

    • Laurie

I don't see you on the RSVP list Sharon. Will you be coming? Hope so!

      February 14

    • Sharon

I will be there. Had a thought about the pizza thing though -- not being from around here, wasn't sure where Eagan was, so I googled it and it's about a half hour away. Pizza will be cold by the time I get there. It might be better to order it and have it delivered there. Or you guys can do that and I will pay you back. Incidentally, I'm notorious for getting lost and will probably be late -- seems to be my MO since I moved here, regardless of when I start out. I will probably ;eave around 6:30 in anticipation of Friday night traffic and getting lost. Regardless, if anyone would like to pitch in ... : ) Was gonna get Davannis, but now maybe not. Not a fan of Papa Johns myself, but whatever's easiest, closest. Thoughts, suggestions?

Seriously thinking of coming to this shin dig. Sounds like fun! Other than Belgium choc & cupcakes, what's everyone bringing?

    1 · February 13

    I'm bringing peanut butter cookies

    2 · February 11

  • Laurie

Tuesday night now. Just want to send a plea out to the "yes" RSVP's. PLEASE be SURE that you're going to attend the party. The fate of 5 lbs. of Belgian chocolate (no, I am not kidding) is hanging in the balance depending upon how many people are TRULY coming Friday night. I can't tell you WHY I have 5 lbs. of Belgian chocolate...all will eventually be revealed....promise. But, PLEASE, if you're not coming, or even not 95% sure you are, please change your RSVP to no.

If you haven't RSVP'd yes and are looking for something to do that night...come indulge in delicious desserts, play some fun games, and have friendly chats with other transplants.

    February 11

  • Laurie

Sure sounds good; I'll pay at the door. See you Friday! Laurie

How about we just leave it at please pay the $5 at the door? :) And please, please, pretty PLEASE - leave a comment letting me know what you plan on bringing! If you're stuck - ask and maybe I can help w/suggestions.

  • Sam S.

Ready to send $$ via PayPal. Not sure who to send to.

    February 10

  • Kelli B.

Please let me know how to pay for the cover charge. Not sure what I will be bringing yet.

    February 10

  • Laurie

Hello! I'd like to begin collecting the party fee. Lisa & I will be going shopping for the party next week.

I will send a request for the fee via Paypal. You don't have to be a member of Paypal in order to use it. I don't see any of your private information; I'm simply notified when a payment's been received.

I'll need either an email address or cell phone number for each of you. Please forward one/the other to me via the "send email" button on my profile. This way I'll get it privately rather than via a comment which anyone can view.

If I don't receive payment by Sun. evening I'll take it that you're not attending. What dessert will you be bringing? Please post your contribution in a comment below so that everyone can get an idea (including the Organizers!) of what we'll have that night. Remember: VARIETY is the spice of life. I'll be gently reminding those of you that don't post what you'll be bringing in a comment by Tues.

Thanks and I hope that you're staying warm!

    February 6

    • George K

I didn't see where to send email, so I thought that I'd tell you yes, I plan on coming.
