I grew up just north of the Golden Gate bridge in Marin Country, Calif. We then moved to LA when I began 9th grade, and then to La Jolla (a beach town in San Diego) when I graduated high school. I'm very grateful for the extensive exposure to San Francisco growing up, and for everything the Southern Calif. lifestyle offered (at that time, at least!).
Southern California. I'm not new to the Twin Cities. But I've found being from another region and culture can make for difficulty in assimilation. In many of the social circles of persons around here, most everyone knows each other since junior high, if not from early childhood. Also, my not being married and not having kids may be construed as nonconforming in such a homogenous culture. I literally stumbled on your TC Transplants Meetup Site while looking for something else, and thought this might be a way to expand certain areas of my social life.
Hello! Although I greatly enjoy the cultural, educational and entertainment activities here, and I appreciate the positive attributes endemic to the native populace, the over-representation of Transplants among my close friends is no coincidence.
