Summer is a great time to get outside and play some leisurely games and Bocce Ball is a great one to play. It's a bit like bowling without the pins and curling without the brooms. One player throws a small ball called the patina or jack down the lane. Then that player and the others all try to get their balls as close to the jack as possible. the closest player, or team, scores a point for each of their balls that is closer than anyone else's balls. Many of you have probably played this casually at a picnic strolling about the lawn. However we're going to head to Plymouth Creek Park where they have actual bocce ball lanes. The lanes add a new dimension because you can actually do bank shots off the sides or back.
This event will take place on Friday, June 6th. We'll start at 7pm but we won't be doing food so you may want to grab dinner beforehand. At this time of year we should have enough light to play until at least 9 if we wish. Afterwards there are plenty of place around if we want to grab a snack or dessert. If the weather doesn't look good, there is a possibility of the event being cancelled so stay tuned.
Plymouth Creek Park is west of 494 between Highway 55 and Rockford Road. The park itself is quite large, but the area we will be in is near the center, sharing a parking lot with the Plymouth Creek Center off of 34th Ave. As you pull into the parking lot, the bocce ball courts are on the right.
Hope to see you there!
