This group is just for hikers.  Everything we do is to enable us to get to a great hiking spot and spend as much time as possible in the mountains.

By joining this group, you agree to take personal responsibility for the risks associated with hiking in these mountains. You also agree to accept the recommendations for proper equipment required before you attend a hike, as well as accepting the recommendations for water consumption and other pertinent issues.

You agree to accept advice of more experienced hikers whose goal is to ensure your safety as well as the safety of the group.

A hike is NOT just a walk outside in the mountains.  The nature of these mountains here in UAE and Oman is profoundly different to those in other parts of the world.   There are NO marked trails - anywhere. There are no maps. The hiking route can even change over weeks due to flooding and rains.   Navigation and exploring are mandatory and - in our opinion - a big part of the fun!

Most of the hikes we do, at this point, do not fall into the 'easy' category and do require that you have some fitness. We climb up boulders using our arms and and navigate down often slippery and loose rocks. Steep inclines require some mental fitness as well as physical.  This could be the motivation you need to get out and start working out!

We will plan 1 or 2 hikes per month to the mountains of Oman and UAE. We will hike even in the heat of the summer, but will have to drive a little farther to get to the 'cool' air in Oman. You don't need to have car, as half the fun of hiking is getting there, and getting to know new people along the way! We will only lead hikes that we know the routes. If we don't know a route that we really want to do we will do 'exploratory' hikes for a smaller group in order to be able to lead a larger group later. We will let you know the difficulty of the hikes and stamina required in order for you to estimate your fitness level safely. We can coordinate with trekkers from anywhere in Oman or UAE and welcome people from all over.

Before you join us on a hike, you do need to have the right equipment and a degree of fitness.

Most of our hikes will be Day hikes which will usually be on Fridays, but many of the best spots can only be reached by driving more than 3 hours, which require an overnight camp.

We will state the difficulty of the hikes clearly and try to ensure that everyone has a clear picture of what they can expect.

Gear is now available to be loaned for no charge which you can sign up for on the Gear Borrowing form. This is made possible by the 100dh gear contribution for the hikes. Every hike everyone is asked to contribute, whether or not you borrow gear.

Organizing rides is always the most difficult as many hikes require 4x4 and most people don't have one, so we will give priority on attendance to drivers first and then open it up to passengers.

We also always practice the wilderness lovers creed: take only pictures, leave only footprints.  We always pick up our own trash, as well as whatever we can take that's been left by others less respectful hikers.
